Boise State Falls 3-0 to TCU in MW Quarterfinals

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - Boise State fought hard throughout the match but came up on the short end of a 3-0 match (25-19, 25-22, 27-25) score falling in the Mountain West quarterfinals to the TCU Horned Frogs. Breann Nesselhuf closed her career with a team-high 11 kills followed by Liz Harden with 10. After a slow start in set one, the Broncos played TCU tight in the final two sets before falling in three. Boise State finishes the season with its second straight winning season at 16-15 overall.  

The first set saw the Broncos dig themselves a big hole as TCU ran out to a quick 10-2 lead. Boise State attempted to rally pulling to within four twice, the last was at 22-18. The Horned Frogs hit an impressive 43.3 percent from the floor while holding off the Broncos to take the set by five at 25-19. 

Boise State opened the second set better as the Broncos battled hard keeping it close. They traded five leads and were tied 13 times throughout the set before TCU had a decisive run to gain momentum. The Frogs scored four straight points turning a 19-19 tie into a 23-19 advantage. The Broncos tried to comeback but fell short by a 25-22 margin.

The third set was close throughout as well with three lead changes and 10 ties with TCU taking small leads only to see the Broncos fight back. With the score tied at 19 the Frogs ran off four straight points to take a 23-19 lead. Boise State regrouped and came back to tie it at 25, only to see TCU scored the final two points to win the set 27-25 and the match 3-0. 

Nesselhuf led Boise State with 11.5 points on 11 kills and one block assist. She hit 27.3 percent and added 20 assists to her match totals. Harden was second with 10 points on 10 kills, followed by Elizabeth Griffin with 8.5 points on seven kills and three block assists. Casey Rose added 18 assists while Amanda Remy contributed 12 digs followed by Kersti Whitney with 11. The Broncos hit 20 percent on the day with six blocks.

Jordan Raines led TCU with 14 points on 14 kills and hit 33.3 percent. Kristen Hester added 13 points on 10 kills, one ace, one solo block and two block assists. The Frogs hit 27.5 percent in the match and had six blocks.
