Bronco Volleyball Inks Two

BOISE, Idaho - The Boise State volleyball team and head coach Shawn Garus are excited to announce the signing of two players to National Letters of Intent to join the Broncos for the 2011 season. The Broncos welcome Sarah Webster and Taylor Murphey to the 2011 squad who will add depth in the middle blocker and outside hitter positions, respectively.

Webster, a Palm Springs, Calif., native joins the Broncos after playing two seasons with the Palm Springs High School varsity team headed up by coach Gary Wilhoite. There the 5-11, middle blocker was a member of the 2009 PSHS team that placed third in the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF), as well as a member of the 2010 team currently in the CIF playoffs. She helped her 2009 and 2010 teams to Desert Valley League titles while also being named to the All-DVL First Team as a junior. In 2009 she was named the DVL Player of the Year and MVP, while also being named to the CIF First Team. With the 2010 season still in progress Webster leads the Indians in kills while also helping her team to a 24-2-1 record thus far. Webster has also played for the 951 Elite Volleyball Club under coach Dennis Palpallatoc for two seasons. In her first year with 951 Elite she helped the team qualify for the Junior National tournament after placing third at the Baltimore Qualifier. In the spring of 2010 she also helped her team to a runner-up title at the Las Vegas Invitational. Outside of volleyball, Webster is a member of the National Charity League, a mother-daughter service organization that serves the local community.

Murphey comes to Boise State from Saint George, Utah, where she has been a three-year member of the Snow Canyon High School varsity volleyball team. There she played under head coach Alaina Parker, helping the Warriors to three of their five-straight 4A/3A Utah State Champion team titles. The 6-0, outside hitter has led her team in kills, blocks and digs as a senior, as well as helping the team to a 32-1 record in 2010. Murphey is a three-time state all-tournament team honoree and a three-time Region 9 first team honoree. She is also a three-time Tribune first team all-state honoree, a two-time Deseret News first team honoree while also nabbing a second-team honor in 2009. She has been an eight-year member of the Southern Utah Volleyball Academy, most recently playing for Darice Pratt on the 18-under team which was a regional qualifier for the Junior Nationals in 2010. She has also played with the 17-under team and 16-under team which made it to the Junior Nationals.

The Broncos welcome Webster and Murphey as the first signees for the 2011 class and will join 13 returning Broncos for the upcoming season.
