Broncos Prepare To Close Out Conference Play at Idaho

BOISE, Idaho After coming off of a three-game sweep over conference foe La Tech, the Boise State volleyball team now looks to close out the regular season on a high note when the Broncos take on cross-state rival Idaho, Saturday at 7 p.m. (PT). However, before stepping foot on the Palouse, the Broncos will face Eastern Washington, Thursday at 6 p.m. (PT).

“The team has been working hard all year and they’re not burned out,” said head coach Robin Davis. “We are at the end of the season and the team is feeling that, but they played with great intensity and at a good level Saturday night. We’re just looking forward to continuing with it. The team has enough character to know that they can play like they did on Saturday night and finish strong. We’re going to play a good Eastern Washington team and then a good Idaho team on the road.”

This marks the first meeting against Eastern Washington since the 2005 season, when the Broncos fell to the Eagles 1-3. The Broncos faced Idaho earlier this season and were swept by the Vandals in three games.

Sizing Up the Competition...
   Eastern Washington (10-2, 19-4):
The Eagles have won their last six games, which includes a pair of wins at home ... Look for Ashley Hamilton to lead the attack for Eastern as she leads the Eagles hitting .315 and averages 7.30 assists per game ... Hayley Hills is another force on the floor averaging 4.33 kills per game, while teammate Amanda Yausie sets the pace for the Eagles as she averages 8.81 apg ... Defensively, Mandy Daniels leads the way with 4.78 digs per game and Chenoa Coviare averages 1.05 blocks per game.

   Idaho (6-7, 10-14): The Vandals currently sit in sixth place in the WAC after coming off of a win over La Tech in five games, Thursday, and are just one game shy of posting a season with a winning percentage of .500 ... Be on the watch for junior Haley Larsen to make her presence known on the floor as she ranks second among conference leaders in kills (5.37 kpg) and ranks third in points (5.82 ppg) ... Setting the pace for Idaho is junior Kelsey James, who ranks fourth in the WAC averaging 11.59 apg ... On the defensive side, a duo of sophomores rank among conference leaders in blocks per game with Anna McKinney ranking fifth (1.28 bpg) and Sarah Loney sitting at ninth (1.12 bpg), while sophomore Kelsey Yonker ranks ninth in digs per game with 3.61.

The Broncos kept on pace with cross-state rival Idaho, but fell to the Vandals in three games ... Mandy Klein tallied 32 assists while sophomore Elise Ardron led the attack with a hitting percentage of .357 (7-2-14) ... Junior Jeanette Jenkins led Boise State with 10 kills while freshman Alisha King tallied 9 kills of her own ... Defensively, freshman Lauren Hamm and junior Kristen Voyson led the Broncos with 10 digs each ... Jeanette Jenkins hit .278 on the night, with six kills ... Mandy Klein recorded 16 assists, while Tiffany Starring tallied a pair of aces ...Defensively, Jeanene Rose led the attack for Boise State as she notched seven digs, while teammates Lauren Hamm and Klein each recorded five digs. Blocking was a group effort for the Broncos as Robyn Hewitt, Sadie Maughan and Jenkins all tallied three blocks a piece.

   Against Louisiana Tech:  It was senior night at Bronco Gym and the Boise State volleyball team sent its seniors out on a high note as the Broncos swept Louisiana Tech in three ... Maren Ericson led the attack for the Broncos as she tallied 13 kills, while Tiffany Starring led the seniors with 11 kills, eight digs, four assists, three aces and a pair of blocks ... Sadie Maughan led the team hitting an impressive .353 (9-3-17) on the night ... Mandy Klein set the pace for the Broncos, tallying 35 assists ... Both Lauren Hamm and Jamie Claussen recorded double-figure digs, as Hamm led the Broncos with 14 and Claussen notched 10 of her own ...As a team, Boise State out blocked the La Tech, 8.0 to 6.0, while out hitting the Lady Techsters .252 (48-14-135) to .087 (41-30-127).

Sweep Success - In over half of Boise State’s wins this season, the Broncos have swept their opponents in three ... The back-to-back three-game sweep over CSU-Fullerton and UTSA marked the first time since 2000 that Boise State had swept its first two matches of the season.

Point Break - The Broncos have five active players listed among the top ten in the Boise State record books for total points which is comprised of three juniors, two seniors and a sophomore. Leading the way is junior Jeanette Jenkins, who currently ranks second.

Digging Machine - Libero Lauren Hamm proved to be a force to be reckoned with on the defensive front at Fresno State as she notched a career-high 32 digs ... Hamm leads the Broncos with 371 digs on the season, averaging 4.26 digs per game and ranks fourth in the WAC ... The freshman broke her way into the Boise State record books after leading the Broncos in digs to become the first freshman to rank among the top ten for digs in a single season ... Her record breaking didn’t stop there as she also sits in the Boise State record books for dig average.

Awesome Claussen - Senior Jamie Claussen has rewritten the record books during her career at Boise State as she ranks among the top ten in several categories which includes career points and career digs average ... This season, Claussen recorded a double-double in the Broncos’ season opener and was named to the Bronco Invitational All-Tournament Team.

Unbelievable Underclassmen - The Broncos have four players ranked among the Conference leaders in seven different statistical categories, with two of the four being freshmen. Among the leaders are freshmen Lauren Hamm (fourth, 4.26 digs per game; fourth, 0.33 service aces per game) and Sadie Maughan (fifth, .275 hitting percentage; eighth, 1.15 blocks per game). In addition, junior Mandy Klein ranks eighth in assists (10.07 apg) and senior Tiffany Starring ranks fifth in service aces (0.33 sapg).

Klein Climbs Charts - Junior setter Mandy Klein, who ranks fourth on the Broncos’ career list in assists, currently ranks eighth in the WAC with 10.07 apg ... Klein notched a career-high 61 assists against Fresno State ... The junior has posted 896 assists this season, moving her career total to 2,635.

Simply Flawless - Freshman middle blocker Sadie Maughan, hit .400 (8-0-20) against UTSA in her inaugural Bronco match, posting the Broncos’ fifth-most attempts without an error since 1993.
