Bronco Volleyball Making Final Road Trip

This Week The Boise State University volleyball team wraps up its final road trip of the season before the Western Athletic Conference Championship this week, with matches against San Jose State University, Nov. 9, and Fresno State, Nov. 11.

The Broncos, ranked seventh in the WAC, have won two of their last three matches. Boise State dropped a match to No. 23 New Mexico State University, Nov. 2, but came back to sweep Louisiana Tech, Nov. 4.

Boise State is led by senior Cameron Flunder, who ranks fourth in the conference this season in hitting percentage (.329) and 10th in kills (3.30 per game).

Fellow senior Jackie Stroud is sixth in the WAC with a dig average of 4.28 per game, while sophomore Mandy Klein ranks fifth in assists (9.62 per game) and fourth in service aces (.41 per game).

The Teams - San Jose State currently sits in fifth place in the conference standings. The Spartans knocked off Fresno State (3-0) last week and dropped a match to No. 15 Hawaii (1-3), and are led by Kristina Conrad’s 11.6 assists per game, Jennifer Senftleben’s 3.99 kills per game and Jessie Shull’s 5.99 digs per game.

Fresno State, the WAC’s eight-ranked team, has dropped each of its last four matches. The Bulldogs are led by Angela Wiggins’ 3.20 kills per game, Tiffany Hess’ 5.40 assists per game and Cheryl Selenak’s 4.46 digs per game.

Previous Matches - The Broncos swept Fresno State at home, Oct. 7, but dropped a three-game match to San Jose State, Oct. 5.

BLOCKING BRONCOS: The Broncos have a 6-2 record when they outblock their the Broncos’ 10 wins this season they have recorded 83 blocks to their opponents’ 72.5.

KILLS LEAD TO SUCCESS: When the Broncos record more kills than their opponents, they are a perfect 8-0...the Broncos have swept seven of the eight teams in three straight games when leading in kills.

FIRST GAME WINS: The Broncos are 8-1 in matches in which they win the first game, with the only loss coming to Idaho, Oct. 25...when the Broncos lose the first game, however, they are 2-13, with victories against Louisiana Tech and North Dakota State.

KILL PERCENTAGE: The Broncos have recorded a kill percentage of .250 or higher against four teams this season (Fresno State, Gonzaga, Northern Arizona, and Louisiana Tech)...when hitting above .250, the Broncos have swept each of their opponents in three consecutive games...similarly, when the Broncos lead their opponent in kill percentage, they are a perfect 8-0.

ALL-TIME KILL LEADER: With 271 kills this season, Flunder now has 1,418 on her career, making her the Boise State all-time leader for kills in a career...Flunder went into the 2006 season needing only 135 kills to pass the Broncos’ all-time leader...with a season-high 20 kills against Louisiana Tech, Sept. 21, Flunder surpassed Kelly Baker (1986-89) to become the school’s all-time leader in career kills...she is currently the school leader by 137 kills.

DIG THIS: With 364 digs already this season, senior Jackie Stroud now has 1,334 digs in her career...she is currently second on the Bronco list for career digs, 16 behind the school’s all-time leader...Stroud is currently ninth on the Western Athletic Conference all-time list for digs in a career...Stroud also set both a career high and a Bronco season high with 29 digs against Idaho, Oct. 25.

MOVING UP THE LIST: With 818 assists already this season, Mandy Klein now has 1,455 on her not even two full seasons, the sophomore has moved into ninth place on the Bronco all-time list...with 142 more assists this season, Klein will also crack the top 10 list for most assists in a single season.
