Bronco Volleyball Posts Another Win

BOISE, Idaho After a close opening game, the Boise State University volleyball team dominated game two and finished off Louisiana Tech in game three to post a 30-26, 30-14, and 30-20 win, Saturday, at Bronco Gym.

With the win the Broncos improved to 10-14 on the season and 3-8 in Western Athletic Conference action. The Lady Techsters fell to 6-23 on the year and 0-12 in the WAC.

The Lady Techsters jumped out to a 10-5 lead in game one, but the Broncos climbed back to grab a 14-14 tie, and took their first lead at 16-15 on a kill by senior Cameron Flunder. After trading five-point streaks, the Broncos closed out the Lady Techsters with a 30-26 victory in the match’s first game.

The Broncos dominated game two, highlighted by a nine-point run that put the Broncos up 28-12. Boise State led wire-to-wire en route to a 30-14 victory. The 14 points by the Lady Techsters tied the fewest allowed by Boise State in a single game this season.

Louisiana Tech posted an early lead over the Broncos, going up 11-2 to start the match’s third game. After the Broncos got the game back to 12-14, senior Jackie Stroud served up eight consecutive points to cap a nine-point streak. Boise State then went on a 10-5 run to claim a 30-20 victory and record its first three-game sweep since Oct. 7, against Fresno State.

Flunder led the Broncos with 11 kills and a hitting percentage of .421, her highest mark since hitting .500 against Utah State, Oct. 21. Sophomore Jeanette Jenkins added nine kills on .333 hitting. Boise State led Louisiana Tech in kills, 39-34, improving its season record to 8-0 when leading the statistical category.

Stroud recorded 12 digs on the night, passing Louisiana Tech’s Heather Anderson to move into ninth on the WAC all-time list for career digs. Stroud now has 1,334 in her career.

Sophomore Mandy Klein posted 30 assists; Klein, Flunder and junior Tiffany Starring each added three service aces; and Flunder recorded four blocks to lead the Broncos.

The Broncos continue their season in a conference match at San Jose State, Thursday.
