Boise State Rallies Past Utah Valley
Nesselhuf moves into 3,000 career assists club.

BOISE, Idaho - Down one set Boise State rallied for a 3-1 victory over Utah Valley in a nonconference volleyball match in Bronco Gym Tuesday night.  Leading the way for the Broncos were Liz Harden with 19 kills followed by Breann Nesselhuf and Brittany Reardon with 14 each. Nesselhuf also recorded 31 assists to become only the fifth Bronco ever to eclipse the 3,000 career assists mark at Boise State.

It was a reversal of fortunes from the first meeting of the year in Orem, Utah, when UVU rallied past Boise State after the Broncos won the first set. Tonight the blue and orange returned the favor as they improved to 14-13 on the year with the 30-32, 25-22, 25-20, 26-24 victory.

The Broncos led most of the way in the first three sets even though the Wolverines rallied for a set one victory.  The match opened with a marathon first set that went back and forth with 13 ties and three lead changes before the Wolverines came away with the extra-points victory 32-30.  In the second period the Broncos trailed early by three at 5-2 then rallied to lead the rest of the way eventually taking set two 25-22.  Boise State hit a solid 41.2 percent in the second set as they tied the match up at one set apiece going into the break.

Like in the first two sets, the third was a tightly contested one with Boise State leading nearly the entire time. The Broncos hit 33.3 percent in the period which was close midway through before the Broncos pulled away late to take it by five at 25-20.

The fourth set was different with the Wolverines leading by as many as five points on several occasions before Boise State rallied. Down 14-9 the Broncos rolled off a 7-1 run to tie the set at 16. UVU responded by retaking a two-point lead twice. Down 20-18 Boise State rallied again this time taking the lead at 23-22 and shortly after that claimed a 26-24 win for a 3-1 match victory.   

Liz Harden led the Broncos on the night with 20.5 points on 19 kills and three block assists while hitting .213 percent. Brittany Reardon was close behind with 18.5 points on 14 kills (.286), one ace, and team-high seven block assists. The duo was followed by Breann Nesselhuf with 17 points on 14 kills, one ace and four block assists and hit .408 percent. Darlene Nwagbuo hit a team-high 52.9 percent from the floor recording 12.5 points on 10 kills and five block assists. Casey Rose contributed a team-best and career-high 33 assists, while Amanda Remy added a high of 16 digs followed by Kersti Whitnet with 14.

Jaicee Kuresa and Erica Nish led the Wolverines with 17.5 points apiece. Kuresa had 16 kills and three block assists, while Nish recorded 14 kills, and team-high seven block assists.

Boise State out hit UVU 28.7 percent to 27 percent. The win opened a four-match homestand for the Broncos that will close the regular season. Next up is Air Force in a rare Friday night match at 7:00 p.m. in Bronco Gym.
