Boise State Falls in Three at Wyoming
Sierra Nobley and Maddy O’Donnell combined for 22 kills to lead Boise State volleyball in a 3-0 loss at 27th-ranked Wyoming to open Mountain West play on Thursday.

THIS WEEK FOR THE BRONCOS  

  • Boise State (14-6, 6-2 MW) returns home for a big Homecoming Weekend hosting league leading and 20th-ranked Colorado State (15-3, 8-0 MW) at 7 p.m. on Thursday and third-place Wyoming (15-5, 5-3 MW) at 2 p.m. Saturday.


Promotions

  • Thursday:  Blackout Thursday as everyone is requested to wear black, the first 300 fans through the door will receive a pair of sunglasses.
  • Saturday: Pinkout Saturday for breast cancer awareness ... half price (adults $3) tickets for anyone showing their football ticket at the gate.  


No. 20 Colorado State; Thursday, Oct. 22

  • The action begins Thursday night with a battle between the top two teams in the league standings when Colorado State comes to town.
  • The Rams enter the week leading the conference and ranked 20th nationally with a 15-3 record and 8-0 conference mark.
  • CSU was picked to win its seventh consecutive title in the league’s preseason poll returning five starters, the libero and eight letterwinners from 2014.
  • Alex Reid leads CSU with 195 kills for a 3.31 per set average (4th MW) ... Adrianna Culbert follows with 161 kills (2.82 kps) and hits 36.1 percent (3rd MW).
  • As a team CSU is in the top three of every stat category in the MW ... the Rams hit 27 percent (2nd MW/20th NCAA) and hold opponents to 15.6 percent (2nd MW/21st NCAA), average 13.92 kills per set (2nd MW/41st NCAA) ... Acacia Andrews leads the MW in hitting percentage at .441 (5th NCAA).
  • Boise State has never defeated Colorado State in 11 tries.
  • Last time at Fort Collins (Sept. 26) the Broncos took the Rams to five sets before falling.


Wyoming; Saturday, Oct. 24

  • Homecoming Week continues Saturday afternoon with an encounter with the Wyoming Cowgirls at 2 p.m.   
  • Wyoming enters the week 15-5 overall and 5-3 in conference following two road defeats last week falling at Colorado State 3-0 at San Jose State in five.
  • The Cowgirls were picked to place fourth in the MW preseason poll, they return five starters plus the libero and nine letterwinners from 2014.
  • Laura Beach leads UW with 187 kills (2.49 kps) hitting 34.8 percent (5th MW) ... Reed Copeland leads the league in blocks per set at 1.6 (7th NCAA).
  • As a team Wyoming is hitting 20.3 percent (7th MW) on the year and averages 11.83 kills per set (10th MW) ... its leads in opponent hitting percentage holding teams to .155 (19th NCAA).
  • Wyoming leads the all-time series 11-9 ... Boise State leads 5-1 in contests played at Boise ... then-ranked 25th Wyoming won the first meeting this year in Laramie 3-0 (Sept. 24).



BRONCO NOTABLES  

Shawn Garus, Head Coach

  • Garus currently sits at 223-218 overall in his 15-year career as a collegiate head coach.
  • Garus is currently 108-98 at Boise State in his seventh season.
  • Garus hit the 100 win milestone at Boise State when the Broncos defeated Abilene Christian 3-0 on Sept. 12.
  • Garus ranks second in total wins in program history.


Team Statistical Rankings

  • For the first time in program history the Broncos lead the nation in two statistical categories kills and assists per set.
  • They average 15.6 kills per set, which would be a school record if season was over ... they finished last year ranked 17th in NCAA at 14.21 kps.
  • Boise State dishes out 14.7 assists per set, another potential school record if the season was over ... the Broncos were 15th nationally at the end of 2014 at 13.25.
  • Hitting percentage of .280 leads the MW and is 12th nationally ... they finished 2014 ranked 24th nationally at .263, a school record.


NCAA RPI  

  • Boise State is ranked No. 53 in the most recent NCAA RPI release.
  • That ranks them third in the MW behind Colorado State at No. 38 and Wyoming at No. 48.
  • All six of the Broncos’ losses have come to teams ranked in the top-65: Washington No. 10, Colorado State No. 38, Wyoming No. 48, Idaho State No. 51, Northern Arizona No. 59 and Gonzaga No. 64.
  • Boise State defeated No. 20  Northwestern.

  • On the year, senior setter Sarah Baugh leads the MW and is third nationally in assists per set at 12.18.
  • She also leads the MW and is ranked 15th in NCAA for total assists at 901.
  • Recorded her league-leading (tied) 10th double-double of the year at San Diego State (Oct. 6) with 61 assists and 10 digs.
  • Her 18 career double-doubles ranks second in the MW among active players in 2015.


Sierra Nobley, Outside Hitter

  • Has led the Broncos in kills during 15 of 20 matches this season.
  • Leads MW and is ranked 11th nationally for kills per set at 4.55.
  • Nobley leads the MW and is 14th in NCAA for points per set at 5.09.
  • Leads MW and ranked 25th nationally in total kills with 332.
  • Has been named the MW offensive Player of the Week twice in 2015 on Sept. 21 and Oct. 12.
  • Has seven double-doubles on the year, five in conference play ... last came at San Diego State (Oct. 17) with 19 kills and 11 digs.


Kaitlyn Oliver, Middle Blocker

  • Oliver ranks second in MW and 18th nationally in hitting percentage at .422.
  • Has been named the MW offensive Player of the Week twice in 2015 on Sept. 7 and Oct. 5.
  • Second on team in kills with 194 (2.62 kps).
