Broncos on Final Regular Season Road Trip to Utah State, Idaho

BOISE, Idaho -- After splitting 1-1 on their penultimate regular season road trip, the Boise State volleyball team will prep to face two local’ teams this upcoming weekend. The Broncos will first head to Logan, Utah to take on Utah State on Thurs., Oct. 23 at 7 p.m. followed by an 8 p.m. (MT) match in Moscow, Idaho against the University of Idaho.

Boise State:

The Broncos currently hold a 6-13 record, including a 3-6 Western Athletic Conference record. On the road again this weekend, Boise State will look to improve on their 3-4 away record in their final road trip. Their most recent matches ended in a 1-1 record over the weekend, defeating Louisiana Tech 3-1 and falling to New Mexico State 3-1.

 

Offensively, the Broncos are currently led by sophomore Sadie Maughan who has tallied 153 kills and a .313 hitting percentage. Freshman Elizabeth Griffin has added 140 kills while sophomore Alisha King has totaled 130. Senior Jeanette Jenkins has totaled 120 kills this season and is 54 kills away from reaching the 1,000 kill mark in her career. Senior Mandy Klein has run the offense with her 571 set assists while King has added a team high of 17 service aces this season. Sophomore Lauren Hamm has added 15 aces while also leading the backcourt with her 246 digs. Freshman Lydia Blaha has led the net defense with 82 blocks (17 solo) this season while Maughan has added 75 blocks (13 solo) as well.

 

Boise State holds the No. 7 spot in the weekly WAC standings, sitting just ahead of Fresno State and Louisiana State.

 

Utah State:

Utah State enters the weekend with a 7-13 season record and a 5-4 WAC record. The Aggies currently sit at No. 4 in the WAC standings after going 1-1 in WAC play this past weekend, dropping 3-0 to Hawai’i and earning a 3-2 win over Fresno State.

 

Utah State earned a 3-0 sweep over the Broncos just two weekends ago in Bronco Gym. Over the season, Melissa Osterloh has led the offense with 271 kills while Katie Astle has added 118 kills for a .315 percentage. Chelsea Fowles has led the offense with 712 assists while adding 15 service aces while Osterloh leads the team in the category with 27 aces. Christine Morrill has led the defense with 292 digs while Rebecca Anderson has led the blocking efforts with 68 total blocks (2 solo).

 

At home the Aggies are 3-4 this season and have a 1-0 lead over the Broncos in 2008. Boise State leads the all-time series with a 15-11 record; however the Aggies hold a three match winning streak.

 

Idaho:

The Idaho Vandals enter the weekend as the No. 3 team in the WAC standings with a 14-7 season record and a 6-3 WAC record. The Vandals also hold a 1-0 record over the Broncos this season after defeating Boise State 3-2 in Bronco Gym earlier in the season. The Vandals lead 45-26 in the all-time series against the Broncos with a 12 match winning streak to their advantage.

 

The Vandals will be a tough opponent in Moscow, holding a 5-1 season record at home as well as a 2-1 WAC record at home.

 

Idaho is led by Haley Larsen who has tallied 339 kills this season for a .222 average. Sarah Conwell has added 160 kills on the season as well. Kelsey James has tallied 797 assists while Kelsey Yonker has led the team in digs with 303 and in aces with 24. Larsen has added 20 aces on the season as well. Anna McKinney leads the Vandals in blocks with 103 (nine solo) while also adding a team high of .307 hitting percentage on 149 kills.
