FRESNO, Calif. - The Boise State volleyball team was unable to produce the comeback win on Saturday against Fresno State, falling 3-2 for the second time this season to the Bulldogs. Fresno State (11-8, 4-3 WAC) was able to pull out a close 19-25, 25-21, 25-18, 20-25, 15-10 win over the Broncos (2-18, 2-6 WAC) at the Save Mart Center.
The two teams played fairly close, with Boise State hitting 52 kills (.178) and Fresno State 61 kills (.196). The Broncos out blocked the Bulldogs 17-12 in individual blocks and 9-6 in team blocks. The Bulldogs led the backcourt defense, however, producing 63 digs over Boise State's 58. Service aces ended in a 6-5 advantage for the Broncos.
Junior Sadie Maughan led the Broncos in their offensive efforts producing 13 kills. Fresno State's Baylee Platt recorded the match-high with 15 kills and a .294 percentage.
Boise State's Alisha Young and Elizabeth Griffin also added a significant number of kills, earning 12 each. Maughan and Young led the team in blocks with four apiece.
Also helping the Broncos defensive efforts were Amanda Remy and Jeanene Rose with 19 and 14 digs, respectively. Rose added a team high of three aces while Remy added one.
Also leading the Bulldogs was Kelly Mason with 20 digs, Brianna Clarke with five blocks, and Allanah Munson with four ace serves.
The Broncos prepare for a three-match homestand, beginning with Utah State on Thursday, Oct. 22. They will then host Nevada on Saturday, Oct. 24 and Louisiana Tech on Saturday, Oct. 31 to round out the month of competition. The Utah State and Louisiana Tech matches are slated for 7 p.m., while the Nevada match will be played at 1 p.m. in Bronco Gym.
