Boise State Falls 3-0 at San Diego State

SAN DIEGO, Calif. - Boise State lost in straight sets at San Diego State in a Mountain West volleyball match Saturday afternoon at San Diego.  The Broncos started slow against the Aztecs digging themselves a big hole that they could not battle out of losing 25-15, 25-12 and 25-23. Boise State led most of the way in set three before SDSU rallied to take it down the stretch by two. Darlene Nwagbuo and Breann Nesselhuf led Boise State with seven and six kills respectively against the Aztecs as the Broncos fell to 12-10 overall and 3-4 in conference. Next up for Boise State is homecoming as the Broncos host MW leader and two-time defending champion Colorado State Thursday and Wyoming Saturday night.

San Diego State pulled away from Boise State midway through the first set as the Aztecs turned a 13-12 lead into a 25-15 victory with a 12-3 run.  The second set was all Aztecs as the Broncos struggled to hit the ball at .042 percent (5-4-24). San Diego State took the set by 13 at 25-12 going into the break up two sets. The third set saw a better effort from the Broncos who led nearly the entire way before the Aztecs rallied late to edge Boise State 25-23.

Darlene Nwagbuo recorded 8.5 points and a team-best seven kills and three block assists while hitting .500 percent. Nesselhuf matched Nwagbuo's point total to go with six kills, (.188), seven assists, one ace, five digs and three block assists. No one else had more than two kills or points for the Broncos. Amanda Remy recorded a team-high nine digs. Boise State finished the match hitting .149 percent (22-11-74) to go with five blocks.

San Diego State was led by Andrea Hannasch, a preseason All-MW selection, with 14.5 points on 13 kills, one block solo and one block assist, she hit a team-high .765 percent from the court. Kyley Sexton followed with 11.5 points, eight kills (.158) and three block assists. The Aztecs hit .333 percent (45-16-87) with five blocks as a team against the Broncos in the win.
