Boise State Wins 3-2 at UNLV
Stevens leads Broncos with 16 points in victory, Nesselhuf records first triple-double since 2006.

LAS VEGAS, Nev. - Breann Nesselhuf, Leah Stevens and Darlene Nwagbuo led Boise State volleyball to its third Mountain West victory on the road this season as the Broncos won a key match 3-2 over UNLV.  Breann Nesselhuf led the Broncos with the progam's first triple-double since 2006 with 10 kills (.320), 24 assists and career-high 19 digs. Stevens scored a team-high 16 points followed by Nwagbuo's 14.5 as the Broncos improved to 12-9 overall and 3-3 in conference play. The match went back and forth all night as they traded sets before the visitors won 25-19, 19-25, 33-31, 20-25, 15-9 in a match that finished late Thursday evening at the Cox Pavilion in Las Vegas, Nev. The win keeps Boise State in the middle of a six-team pack battling for second place in the league standings. The Broncos continue their weekend road trip with a 2:00 pm (Mountain) match at San Diego State (11-5, 4-2 MW) on Saturday.

Boise State opened the match with a quick 5-1 lead in set one only to see UNLV rally for the lead. Down two at 12-10, the Broncos regrouped out scoring the Rebels with a 7-1 run to seize control of the set at 17-13, eventually winning it by six at 25-19.  The second set went to UNLV with the Rebels leading the entire way and by as many as six points before taking it 25-19 to even the match at one apiece heading into the intermission.

The third set was a hard fought battle that could have went either way. Boise State ended up taking the marathon set 33-31 powered by six Nwagbuo kills and two blocks. The senior from San Diego, Calif., scored six of the final 10 points for the Broncos to give Boise State the one set advantage after three.

Set four was tight early before the Rebels turned a 12-11 deficit into a 17-14 advantage with a 6-2 run to seize momentum. Boise State never led again as UNLV pulled out to a set-high five point advantage on the final score giving it a 25-20 win to force a deciding fifth set.
 
UNLV errors and solid serving by Boise State's Amanda Remy, two service aces, saw the Broncos storm out to a 6-0 lead and never looked back in the fifth set. The Rebels did pull within three at 10-7 before the Broncos put it away with a 5-2 run to take the set and match with a 15-9 victory.

Leah Stevens led Boise State with 16 points off 13 kills, one solo block and four block assists while hitting .391.  Darlene Nwagbuo followed with 14.5 points, 12 kills (.219) and five block assists.  Fiona Jones recorded nine points on nine kills, while Liz Harden contributed 8.5 points off seven kills and three block assists.  Casey Rose tied her career-high for assists with a team-best 26. Amanda Remy added a team-high 25 digs.  Boise State hit .169 (60-28-189) and had 11.5 blocks in the five-set victory over UNLV.

UNLV hit .185 (66-31-189) with 14 blocks versus the Broncos. Madeline Westman recorded a team-high 19 points on 16 kills, one ace and four block assists while hitting a team-best .394. Candice Thomas followed with 18.5 points, 13 kills, three block solos and five block assists. Makenzie Moea'i added 16 points, 14 kills, one solo and two block assists.

This was Boise State's seventh five-set match of the year in which they are now 3-4 in those contests, 2-1 in Mountain West play. The Broncos are also 3-1 on the road in conference play and 0-2 at home. Boise State is at San Diego State Saturday which defeated Air Force in straight sets at home Thursday night.
