Broncos Fall in Four at Utah Valley

OREM, Utah - The Boise State volleyball team played their final non-conference road match of the season Monday (Oct. 10) evening, falling to Utah Valley University 3-1. The Broncos (11-9) opened the match with a first-set win, 25-20, before the Wolverines (14-6) defended their home court winning sets two through four, 25-17, 25-18, 25-19.

The Broncos opened their night with a solid .233 hitting average in the first set, feeding off of four kills by Elizabeth Griffin and three from Darlene Nwagbuo. Utah Valley was held to a .143 hitting percentage with Sarah Clement leading the way with three kills.

Clement went on to lead the Wolverines with four more kills in set two, helping the team to a .135 hitting percentage, while holding the Broncos to a .000 percentage.
 
From there UVU took control of the match, leading sets three and four with .393 and .357 hitting percentages. Boise State was held to .135 and .129 percentages, respectively.

Griffin did her best to keep the Broncos in the match, putting up 12 kills (.280) and adding three blocks. Liz Harden added a solid 11 kills (.211), while Fiona Jones added seven more (.037).  Nwagbuo led the team with seven block assists on the night while Jones, Griffin, Breann Nesselhuf and Brittany Reardon each added three.

Nesselhuf added a team high 21 assists and two service aces, while Casey Rose had 15 assists and one ace. Amanda Remy led the team in the back court, tallying 18 digs.

Clement led the Wolverines to the win with a .500 hitting percentage on 11 kills and adding a match high nine blocks. Erika Nish had a match high 13 kills (.435), while Chelsey Heaps added 11 kills and a team high 14 digs. Brookelyn Campbell led the match in assists, 43, while also adding two service aces.

The Broncos continue a busy week of competition on Thurs., Oct. 13 when they travel to Las Vegas to take on UNLV for the first time this season. The match is slated for an 8 p.m. (MT) start.
