Broncos Fall to Tough Nevada Team, 3-1

BOISE, Idaho - The Boise State volleyball team suffered a tough loss to Western Athletic Conference opponent Nevada on Thursday (Oct. 7) 3-1. The Broncos (15-5, 2-3 WAC) suffered a 33-31, 19-25, 19-25, 21-25 loss to the Wolf Pack, who improved to 9-8 (3-1 WAC) on the season.

Boise State struggled with Nevada's net play, hitting an atypical .138 hitting percentage with 54 kills, while Nevada racked up 60 kills (.271). The Wolf Pack's is a big part of what shut down the Broncos, dominating with a 26-to-13 block difference.

Leading the blocks for the match was Nevada's Lindsay Baldwin, who tallied eight. The Wolf Pack's Janelle Batista and Bronco Sadie Maughan each racked up five blocks, tying for the second-most in the match.

Maughan was the only big defensive force at the net for the Broncos with six teammates tallying three or less blocks to total the team's 13. Maughan was joined by sophomore Liz Harden in reaching the team-high in kills (12), hitting .286 and .300 on the night, respectively. Alisha Young added 11 kills to the mix, as well as a team-leading .320 hitting percentage. Lauren Hamm was tough behind the end line, serving up two aces and adding seven digs. Kersti Whitney led the team in digs (18), while Amanda Remy added 11 on the night. Breann Nesselhuf tallied 47 assists and three blocks to round out the team's leaders.

Nevada's Erin Garvey and Kylie Harrington led the match with 15 kills each, while Garvey recorded a match-high .481 hitting percentage. Harrington was joined by Baldwin to lead the team in aces with two each, while Nicole Link racked up 20 digs for a match-high. Harrington added 13 digs to her game, recording a double-double, while Tatiana Santiago recorded a double-double as well with 53 assists and 11 digs.

The Broncos round-up their three-match home stand on Saturday (Oct. 9) when they take on WAC opponent Utah State in a 3 p.m. (Mountain) match. The homecoming day match will be played in Bronco Gym.
