Broncos Swept by Utah Valley in Second Meeting

OREM, Utah - The Boise State volleyball team suffered their second loss of the season to Utah Valley University on Monday, falling 3-0 at the Shurian Family Athletic Center. The Broncos fell to UVU 4-1 on Sept. 17.

The Broncos (1-14, 1-3 WAC) dropped 25-20, 25-23, 25-23 in their third match in five days. Utah Valley (11-5) was able to break free in the first set at the 15-15 mark while stealing the show in the second set after taking the lead at 2-1. The third set was a back-and-forth battle, with the Broncos holding a lead as late as 21-20, however, the Wolverines were able to produce a 5-2 run to close out the match.

Junior Sadie Maughan was the highlight for the Broncos, building up a solid .450 hitting percentage on a match-high of 11 kills. Maughan also added a team-high of six blocks. Freshman Kersti Whitney was a strong point in the back court with 12 digs while Amanda Remy added the team's only service ace of the night.

Utah Valley's setter Chelsea Fa'alogo was on fire Monday night, producing a match-high hitting percentage of .850 on six kills. Camie Manwill racked up a team-high of nine kills while Sarah Clement produced an impressive 10 blocks (two solo). Allyce Jones covered the back court well for the Wolverines, putting up 21 digs on the night.

Neither Boise State nor Utah Valley had strong offensive nights as a team, with the Broncos hitting .125 on 38 kills and UVU matching the Bronco's kill mark and producing a .175 percentage. UVU had the upper hand in ace serves, recording four, while also edging the Broncos out in total digs and total blocks.

The Broncos will prepare for another busy week, playing three more matches in five days. They will first host New Mexico State on Thursday, Oct. 8 at 7 p.m. in Bronco Gym before heading to Pocatello, Idaho to take on Idaho State on Saturday, Oct. 10. They finish their week with a 7 p.m. match in Bronco Gym against Idaho on Monday, Oct. 12.
