Broncos Have Another Busy Week with New Mexico State, Idaho State and Idaho

► What's Happening - The Boise State volleyball team prepares for another tough week of competition, squeezing three matches into a five day span for the second straight week. They will play one home match, an away match and a home match on Thursday, Saturday and Monday, respectively.

The Broncos kick off the week with a 7 p.m. match on Thursday, Oct. 8 against New Mexico State (8-5, 3-1 WAC) in Bronco Gym. This will be the first meeting between the two teams this season.

They continue their week across the state in Pocatello when they face Idaho State (7-7, 3-2 Big Sky) on Saturday, Oct. 10 at 7 p.m. at Reed Gym.

Playing their second in-state rival of the week, the Broncos conclude their weekend with their first of two matches this season against the University of Idaho. The match is slated for 7 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 12 in Bronco Gym.

► Wear Your Pink, Get In Free -
The Monday, Oct. 12 match against the University of Idaho will be the Boise State volleyball team's "Pink Night" in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. All fans who wear pink will receive free admission. Radio station KISS FM will be holding a radio remote show at the game as well.

Idaho Leads the Nation - As a team, Idaho currently leads the nation with 3.17 blocks per set. The Vandals are one of six WAC teams ranked in the Top 50 including New Mexico State (40th, 2.48).

Idaho's Anna McKinney is ranked in the Top 50 nationally in blocks per set sitting in fourth place with a 1.52 average.

► Ticket Prices - Regular admission prices for volleyball are: $5.00 Adult, $3.00 Junior/Senior. Students are free with valid student I.D.

Looking at Boise State...
► In General - The Broncos played a tough three-match weekend this past week, falling 3-2 to Fresno State, 3-2 to Utah State and 3-0 to Utah Valley on Thursday, Saturday and Monday, respectively. They now hold a 1-14 record and a 1-3 WAC record on the season.  

► Quick Look at the Broncos - The Broncos have made some adjustments in the past week or two, moving Alisha Young to the middle blocker position from right-side as well as introducing a new libero, Kersti Whitney into the mix.

Sadie Maughan has stepped up her game, setting a new career-high in kills in a match last Saturday and then breaking it again this Saturday against Utah State. Her new high is 22 kills. Maughan now leads the team with 134 kills this season and a .289 hitting percentage. She also leads the team in blocks with 63.0 as well as points with 170.5. Breann Nesselhuf leads the team in assists with 895 on the season while Jeanene Rose has tallied 13 service aces and Amanda Remy 151 digs to lead the Broncos.

An Overview: Boise State vs. New Mexico State...
► The Series - The series between Boise State and New Mexico State dates back to 1984 with NMSU holding a 12-8 lead over the Broncos. The Aggies defeated Boise State 3-1 in Las Cruces last season and swept the Broncos, 3-0, in Bronco Gym. The Broncos hold a nine match losing streak to the Aggies.
 
► About New Mexico State - The Aggies are led by Kayleigh Giddens who has totaled 149 kills this season. Kelsey Brennan leads in percentage with a .330 attack percentage while also holding the top spot on the team in blocks with 54.0 this season. Jennah Devries leads in set assists (446) while Krista Altermatt has 12 service aces and Kelsi Phillips has 184 digs.

An Overview: Boise State vs. Idaho State...
► The Series - The series between Boise State and Idaho State is a close one, with ISU holding a 33-30 all-time series lead over Boise State. In their most recent match-up, the Broncos came away with a 3-1 win in Bronco Gym on Sept. 4, 2008.
 
► About Idaho State - Leading the Bengals is Emily Waldron in kills with 163 as well as a .255 hitting percentage. Karissa Legaux has racked up 522 sets while Sarah Carson has 36.0 blocks on the season.  Britta Bartschi-Rhodehouse leads with 19 service aces while Paige Palmer has 190 digs on the season.

An Overview: Boise State vs. Idaho...
► The Series - The series between Boise State and Idaho is the longest all-time series of all the opponents this weekend. The series dates back to 1976 with Idaho holding a 46-26 lead over the Broncos. In their last meeting, Idaho defeated Boise State 3-0 in Moscow, Idaho; however, the Broncos took the Vandals to a 3-2 match in Bronco Gym last season ending in a loss for Boise State. The Vandals hold a 13 match winning streak.  
 
► About Idaho - Sarah Conwell leads the team in kills with 173 while Debbie Pederson leads in service aces (13). Meredith Rice holds the top spot in digs (192) while Anna McKinney leads in blocks (77.0) and Katie Tribley in sets (287).
