BOISE, Idaho - Boise State University's volleyball team fell 3-1 to Seattle University in a nonconference match Tuesday night in Bronco Gym at Boise. Fiona Jones led the Broncos with a team-high 12 kills followed by Brittany Reardon and Elizabeth Griffin with 11 each. Boise State won the first set then struggled through the next three as Seattle seized momentum and eventually the match victory.
Boise State which has played solid throughout the season, suffered through an off night as they fell in four to Seattle. The Broncos opened the match by taking a four-point set one win by a 25-21 score. The second set was a battle as neither team lead by more than two points. They traded six leads and were tied 17 times before the Redhawks pulled it out 26-24 to even the match heading into intermission.
The third set saw Seattle seize momentum with an 16-2 run that turned an 8-5 deficit into a 19-10 lead as the Redhawks took the set 25-19. Seattle used another run in the fourth set to slowly pull out to an 18-11 lead, then held on as the Broncos rallied to pull within one at 23-22. Unfortunately for Boise State, the Redhawks regrouped in time to take a 25-22 win in the set giving them the final 3-1 match victory.
Jones led Boise State against Seattle with 14.5 points, 12 kills (.139), three assists, one ace, 12 digs and two blocks. Brittany Reardon was second with 13 points on 11 kills and four block assists while hitting a team-best .333 percent. Elizabeth Griffin added 11.5 points, 11 kills and one block assist. Liz Harden followed with 9.5 points on six kills and team-high seven block assists. Breann Nesselhuf had a high of 29 assists while Amanda Remy and Kersti Whitney recorded 15 digs each. The Broncos finished the night hitting .143 (52-30-154) against the Redhawks.
A trio led Seattle over Boise State beginning with Katlyn Dill with a team-high 17 points on 14 kills (.200), one ace, and four block assists. She was followed by Cristin Richards with 16 points, 14 kills, one ace and two block assists, while Allison Farley added 15.5 points, 13 kills and five block assists to go with a team-best .500 hitting percentage. Seattle hit .188 (53-24-154) as a team during the four set match.
Next up for Boise State is a four-match road trip which begins with Air Force this Saturday night in a conference match that will be nationally televised on the Mountain Sports Network (The Mtn.) at 7:00 pm.
