LOGAN, Utah - Just two days after the Boise State volleyball team suffered a heartbreaking 3-2 loss to Fresno State, the Broncos experienced a near exact loss to Utah State on Saturday night at the Smith Spectrum. The Broncos (1-13, 1-3) won the first two sets 25-22, 26-24 before falling 21-25, 20-25, 13-15 in the final three sets to the Aggies (10-6, 2-2 WAC).
The Broncos did have some big highlights on the night, however, with Sadie Maughan recording her second career-best kills mark in one week, tallying 22 (.325 percentage) while also adding a team high of five blocks. Alisha Young tied her career-best and produced her season-best of 20 kills (.400) and added four blocks. Amanda Remy notched her third double-double of the season, racking up 10 kills (.216) and a career-high of 22 digs.
Breann Nesselhuf topped her career mark in assists, producing 59 for a new high while Kersti Whitney notched a career high of 19 digs.
Utah State's Liz McArther carried her team to a win with 23 kills (.413) while Emily Korsten added to the cause with 14 kills (.344). Chelsea Fowles not only ran the offense with her 56 assists, but she had nine kills (.471) as well. Christine Morrill tied for a match high of 22 digs and Katie Astle led the team in blocks with five.
The Broncos had 71 kills (.253) over all while also producing 16 individual blocks and nine team blocks.
The Aggies had 70 kills (.273) as well as 23 blocks, 81 digs and 13 team blocks, adding the edge for their win.
Boise State will remain in the Salt Lake area until Monday when they will take on Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah at 7 p.m. Their most recent meeting with the Wolverines ended up in a 1-3 loss.
