Boise State Volleyball Travels to Fresno State and Nevada in Week Three of WAC Play

BOISE, Idaho Boise State returns to the road this weekend to take on Western Athletic Conference opponents Fresno State and Nevada. The Broncos will first head to Fresno, Calif. to take on the Bulldogs on Thurs., Oct. 2 at 7 p.m. (Pacific Time) at the Save Mart Center. The Broncos continue play at 7 p.m. (PT) on Sat., Oct. 4 in Reno, Nev. against the Wolfpack at the Virginia Street gym.

Boise State Broncos:

The Broncos enter the week with a 4-9 record and a 1-2 WAC record. During the past week, the Broncos split at home, winning a 3-1 match over Idaho State and dropping a tight 3-2 match to WAC opponent, Idaho. The Broncos’ single WAC win was a 3-0 sweep over San Jose State while their second WAC loss came at Hawaii, 3-0.


The Broncos moved up three spots to rank No. 12 in the nation in blocks per set (2.78) while freshman Lydia Blaha is the only Bronco in the top-100 rankings for individuals, sitting at No. 45 in blocks per set (1.21).


The Broncos hold the No. 6 spot in the weekly WAC standings while also leading the WAC in blocks as a team with a 2.78 per set average.


Fresno State Bulldogs:

The Bulldogs enter the weekend tied for fourth in WAC play with a 5-8 overall record and a 2-2 WAC record. Their wins against WAC opponents have come at Louisiana Tech (3-1) and at Utah State (3-1) while their losses include a 3-0 loss at New Mexico State and a 3-0 loss to San Jose State (a team Boise State swept in three).


Fresno State leads the all-time series with Boise State 13-5 with Boise State winning their most recent match-up in October 2007, 3-2 in Fresno.


Nevada Wolfpack:

The Wolfpack enter this week with a 5-8 record, including a 1-3 WAC record. Their sole WAC victory came at Louisiana Tech with a 3-2 win over the Lady Techsters. They then suffered a 3-0 loss at New Mexico State. At home they lost 3-2 to San Jose State as well as dropping a 3-2 decision on the road at Utah State this past Saturday.


In the all-time series between Boise State and Nevada, the Wolfpack leads 22-18 with a two match winning streak over the Broncos. The Wolfpack earned a 3-1 win in Boise on Sept. 22, 2007 while also earning a 3-0 victory in Reno on Oct. 27, 2007. Boise State’s most recent win over Nevada came on Nov. 18, 2006 with a 3-1 win in Boise.
