Boise State Concludes Homestand with Air Force


WHAT'S HAPPENING:  The Broncos (7-9, 0-2 MW) wrap up a three-match homestand to open Mountain West play when it host Air Force (7-9, 1-1 MW) Friday night at 7:00 p.m. (Mountain) in Bronco Gym. This is the lone match of the week for Boise State.  

MW POLL:  Boise State was projected to place seventh in the MW preseason poll while Air Force was picked ninth.   

THE AIR FORCE-BOISE STATE SERIES:  Boise State leads the series 4-0 versus Air Force. Last year in the Broncos first season as MW members they swept the Falcons 3-0 each time.    
BOISE STATE'S RECORD:  Boise State brings a 7-9 overall record and a 0-2 conference mark into Friday's match. The Broncos are 4-2 at home this year with both losses being five-set heartbreaks.

Looking at the Air Force Match
AIR FORCE'S RECORD:  Boise State will be facing a Falcons team that has won two consecutive matches defeating Fresno State in four last Saturday and Denver in five on Tuesday night. During the first weekend of MW play at home Air Force lost in four to UNLV, then rebounded to down Fresno State 3-1. The Falcons enter the match 7-9 overall and 1-1 in MW play.

FALCON LEADERS:  The Broncos will need to keep an eye on the Falcons' Cami Richan who leads Air Force with 210 kills, 3.4 per set (5th MW), and 19 blocks. Felicia Clement adds 126 kills and 24 blocks, followed by Ayesha Hein with 121 kills and team-high 40 blocks.  

AS A TEAM:
  Air Force as a team has hit .178 percent (8th MW) on the year, while holding opponents to .214 percent (7th MW). The Falcons average 12.3 kills per set (8th MW).  In conference play following two matches Air Force leads the league in hitting percent at .259 percent versus UNLV and Fresno State.

The Broncos are hitting .235 percent on the year to rank fourth in the Mountain West.

They lead the MW for overall kills with 835 and are second in kills per set at 13.69.

Boise State is second in assists with a per set average of 12.90.

The Broncos are second in service aces with 86 on the year and rank second in per set average at 1.41.

Defensively, Boise State is second in digs with a per set average of 14.80 and seventh in blocks at 1.97 per set.

Sophomore outside hitter Alyssa Gammel, a transfer from Virginia Tech, has been named to three consecutive all-tournament teams: Northwest Challenge (Aug. 24-25), Sacramento State Invitational (Aug. 1-Sept. 1) and Boise State Invitational (Sept. 7-8).

Senior outside hitter Liz Harden has also been named to three all-tournament teams: the Sacramento State Invitational (Aug. 1-Sept. 1), given the MVP honor at the Boise State Invitational (Sept. 7-8), followed by Arizona Desert Classic All-Tournament Team honors (Sept. 14-15).

Senior libero Kersti Whitney has been named to two all-tournament teams: Boise State Invitational (Sept. 7-8) and Arizona Desert Classic (Sept. 14-15).

Liz Harden, a senior outside hitter, leads the team in kills with 221 for a 3.62 per set average (3rd MW). Harden is hitting .303 percent (10th MW).

Liz Harden is ranked fourth in the MW for points per set at 3.89 and second in total points with 237.5.

Liz Harden, RECORD BOOK WATCH - She recorded a career-high 32 kills at home against UNLV on Sept. 22.  That match total ranks fourth all-time in program history.

Alyssa Gammel, sophomore outside hitter, is second on the team in kills with 211 to rank fourth in the MW for kills per set at 3.46. She is hitting .208 percent on the season.

Alyssa Gammel has led or tied for the team lead in kills in nine of 16 matches. Gammel is second in digs on the team with 166.

Brittany Reardon, a redshirt sophomore middle blocker, is ranked tied for third in the MW for hitting percent at .335, she also has a team third-best 117 kills.

Brittany Reardon leads Boise State in blocks with 61 and is ranked tied for eighth in the MW for blocks per set at 1.05.

Taylor Murphey, sophomore rightside hitter, has 75 kills and is second in blocks with 39.

Leah Stevens, junior middle blocker, is third on the team in blocks with 22. She is hitting .299 percent with 44 kills.

Casey Rose, junior setter, is ranked sixth in the MW for assists per set at 6.18. She has a team-high total of 377 assists.

Casey Rose recorded a career-high 45 assists versus UNLV in Bronco Gym on Sept. 22.

Kersti Whitney, senior libero, leads the team defensively with 272 digs to rank third in the MW at 4.46 digs per set.

Kersti Whitney, RECORD BOOK WATCH - currently has 983 career digs, she needs 17 to reach 1,000 digs milestone.  She needs 41 to move into the school record book for career digs which would tie Cyndi Neece for 10th with 1,024.

Sarah Baugh, freshman setter, is second on the team and ninth in the MW for assists per set at 5.38, she has a total of 312 assists to date.
