FORT COLLINS, Colo. - Boise State's volleyball team suffered its first conference loss Saturday (Sept. 24), falling 3-0 to Colorado State. The Broncos (9-5, 1-1 Mountain West) dropped a 25-13, 25-17, 25-20 match to the 20th-ranked Rams (8-3, 2-0 Mountain West).
CSU started out strong taking the first set quickly with only one tie in the set. Set two included three ties and two lead changes, putting CSU up 2-0 in the set count. Boise State fought hard in the final set, forcing 11 ties and five lead changes before the Rams were able to clinch the match.
Junior Fiona Jones led the Broncos offensively, tallying seven kills (.312) on the day. Four Broncos, Breann Nesselhuf, Brittany Reardon, Darlene Nwagbuo and Casey Rose added four kills apiece, while Rose also collected a match-high three service aces.
Nesselhuf led the Broncos in assists with 13, while Jones led the match in digs with 12. Jones, Reardon and Nwagbuo led the team with two block assists each.
CSU's Katelyn Steffan led the match in kills with 14 (.667) and solo blocks (3), while Deedra Foss collected 32 assists and two service aces. Izzy Gaulia added 12 digs, while Megan Plourde tallied 6 block assists.
The Broncos open up their home schedule on Monday, Sept. 26, taking on Weber State. They continue their week hosting their first Mountain West opponents, TCU on Thursday, Sept. 29, and New Mexico on Saturday, Oct. 1. All matches are slated for 7 p.m. in Boise State's Bronco Gym.
