Boise State Wins Islanders Classic with Sweep of TAMU Corpus Christi

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas - Boise State rolled to the Islanders Classic championship by sweeping all three opponents this weekend including a 25-15, 25-20, 25-22 victory over the tournament host Texas A&M Corpus Christi Saturday night. The Broncos dominated the first two sets then rallied from 13-9 down in the third for a match clinching 25-22 win. Boise State has now swept four-consecutive matches, the longest win streak since 2012, as the Broncos improved to 7-5 overall heading into conference play next week.
 
Junior setter Sarah Baugh was named the MVP of the Islanders Classic after leading the Broncos to the tournament title by dishing out 102 assists to go with six kills, one ace, 20 digs and nine blocks. Saturday night versus TAMU Corpus Christi she distributed 34 assists with four kills, eight digs and four blocks.
 
Alyssa Gammel was also honored for her performance earning all-tournament team recognition. The senior had 29 kills throughout the two-day event with eight Saturday night against the Islanders. She added 12 digs and two assists to her match totals.

Joining Baugh and Gammel with all-tournament honors was Maddy O'Donnell who finished with 11 kills and team-high seven blocks against the Islanders. Over the three-match tournament she hit 48 percent and tallied 27 kills, three aces, six digs and team-high 12 blocks.
 
Freshman Sierra Nobley hit 42.9 percent against TAMU Corpus Christi for 14 kills, in addition to two assists, one ace, eight digs and two blocks. Maddy O’Donnell hit 35 percent for 11 kills versus the Islanders and tallied three service aces, one dig and seven blocks. Hannah Hubbard led the team along the defensive back line with a team-high 16 digs. 
 
The Broncos finished the night hitting 32.7 percent for 45 kills with 41 assists, five service aces, 51 digs and 11 blocks. 
 
The Islanders responded with 13.8 percent hitting for 36 kills, 36 assists, five aces, 43 digs and six blocks. Haley Satterwhite led TAMUCC with 10 kills followed by Brianna Brink with nine. 
 
Boise State now turns its focus towards Mountain West Conference play beginning with two big home matches this coming week when Wyoming and No. 8 Colorado State come to town.
