Boise State Volleyball Sweeps Day One in Oklahoma
Broncos down Arkansas-Pine Bluff 3-0.

NORMAN, Okla. - Boise State University wasted little time on Friday in handling two Southwestern Athletic Conference teams on the first day of the Sooner Legends Nike Invitational in Norman, Okla.  After defeating Texas Southern University 3-0 this morning, the Broncos responded this afternoon with their second sweep of the day by dominating the University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff 25-9, 25-13, 25-14. Breann Nesselhuf led four Broncos who hit .500 or above and recorded seven kills or more as the victory was a complete team effort. Boise State has won three straight matches this week by 3-0 scores as the Broncos improved to 7-3 on the year.

"I am really happy with the way the team played today with two solid performances heading into tomorrow's matches when the competition will pick up a notch with Little Rock (University of Arkansas-Little Rock) and Oklahoma," said head coach Shawn Garus. "We had a lot of people step up for us today especially our young players. Leah (Stevens) had a great match against Pine Bluff (University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff) as did Taylor (Murphey). I thought our upperclassmen did a good job leading the team on the floor. Breann (Nesselhuf), Liz (Harden) and Darlene (Nwagbuo) were steady for us in this match which gave the team confidence. "

This afternoon's match against the UAPB Lions was similar to this morning's match with the Broncos dominating from the beginning hitting 43 percent (49-9-93) in the match.  Boise State hit a solid 40 percent (13-3-25) in the first set as it rolled to the 16 point win 25-9. The hitting improved in set two as the Broncos pounded away converting 47.2 percent (19-2-36) as they won 25-13 for a 2-0 advantage in the match. Set three saw Boise State continue its steady offensive attack as the Broncos hit 40.6 percent (17-4-32) as they put away the Lions 25-14 to claim the straight-set victory.

Nesselhuf led the Broncos offensively in the match recording a team-high 12.5 points on 10 kills (.625), two aces and one block assist to go with 13 assists and five digs. Stevens was close behind with a career match recording highs for points at 11, kills with nine, and hitting percentage at .750. Senior Darlene Nwagbuo followed with 7.5 points on seven kills (.417) and one block assist, while Harden (seven kills) and Murphey (six kills and one block solo) added seven points each.  Casey Rose recorded a career and team-high 26 assists.

UAPB was led by Alexis Lowe with 5.5 points on five kills and one block assist, followed by Rachel Hornbuckle with five points on four kills and two block assists. The Lions hit .000 percent (19-19-85) in the loss to Boise State.

Boise State has now won three consecutive matches and nine straight sets heading into tomorrow's contests against Arkansas-Little Rock out of the Sun Belt Conference at 1:00 p.m. (Mountain) and the Big 12 Conference's No. 22 ranked Oklahoma Sooners at 6:00 pm.
