Boise State to Play in Arizona Desert Classic
What's Happening This Week
The Broncos will conclude another busy week on Friday and Saturday when they travel to play in the Arizona Desert Classic at Tucson, Ariz., in the McKale Center on the campus of the University of Arizona.   

The tournament features two 2011 NCAA Tournament teams in the Pac-12's Arizona Wildcats and the Patriot League's American Eagles. It will also have a rematch of last Saturday's Boise State Invitational championship match between Boise State and UC Irvine.

Boise State opens the Arizona Desert Classic with American (5-3) at 12:30 p.m. (Mountain Time) followed by Arizona (5-3) at 7:00 p.m. (MT). The tournament concludes Saturday for the Broncos with a 12:00 p.m. (MT) encounter against UC Irvine (4-6).

Boise State Notes

Monday at Seattle U.
Boise State lost a heartbreaker in five sets 25-22, 24-26, 23-25, 25-22, 15-13 Tuesday night at Seattle University ending the Broncos' five match win streak.

After dropping the first set, Boise State rallied to win the next two to take the lead. Unfortunately in a match that was tightly contested to the end, momentum swung against Boise State as the Redhawks rallied to win the final two sets and the match.

Brittany Reardon led the Broncos with 10 kills and a career-high 12 blocks followed by Liz Harden with 17 kills and three blocks. 


Looking at Boise State as a Team
The Broncos are hitting .249 percent on the year to rank fourth in the Mountain West.

They lead the MW for overall kills with 568 and second in kills per set at 13.85.

Boise State leads the MW in assists with a per set average of 13.05.

The Broncos are second in service aces with 64 on the year and a per set average of 1.56.

Defensively, Boise State is third in digs with a per set average of 14.95.  


Player Highlights
Sophomore outside hitter Alyssa Gammel, a transfer from Virginia Tech, has been named to three consecutive all-tournament teams: Northwest Challenge (Aug. 24-25), Sacramento State Invitational (Aug. 1-Sept. 1) and Boise State Invitational (Sept. 7-8).

Senior outside hitter Liz Harden was named to the Sacramento State Invitational All-Tournament Team (Aug. 1-Sept. 1), then followed that with the MVP honor at the Boise State Invitational (Sept. 7-8).

Senior libero Kersti Whitney was named to the Boise State Invitational All-Tournament Team (Sept. 7-8).

Alyssa Gammel, sophomore outside hitter, leads the Broncos in kills with 153 to rank second in the MW for kills per set at 3.73. She is hitting .224 percent on the season.

Gammel is second in the MW for points per set at 4.07 with a total of 167 points in 11 matches.

Gammel has led the team in kills in seven of 11 matches. Gammel is second in digs on the team with 120.

Liz Harden, a senior outside hitter, is second on the team in kills with 139 for a 3.39 per set average (5th MW). Harden is hitting .300 percent through 11 matches.

Brittany Reardon, a redshirt sophomore middle blocker, is ranked fifth in the MW for hitting percent at .367, she also has a team third-best 70 kills.

Reardon leads Boise State in blocks with 45. She recorded 12 at Seattle U. on Sept. 11 tying for the second most all-time in a match for a Bronco

Taylor Murphey, sophomore rightside hitter, has 61 kills and is second in blocks with 32.

Leah Stevens, junior middle blocker, is third on the team in blocks with 22. She is hitting .299 percent with 44 kills.

Casey Rose, junior setter, is ranked seventh in the MW for assists per set at 5.95. She has a team-high total of 244 assists.

Kersti Whitney, senior libero, leads the team defensively with 190 digs to rank third in the MW at 4.63 digs per set.

Sarah Baugh, freshman setter, is second on the team and 10th in the MW for assists per set at 5.34, she has a total of 219 assists to date.
