Broncos Head to Seattle for Tuesday Night Match

Boise State (6-4) takes its five-match unbeaten streak on the road Tuesday when the Broncos travel to Seattle University (4-5) for a 8:00 p.m. (Mountain Time) start at the Connolly Center.

The Broncos enter the week at 6-4 overall and are coming off a week where they went 4-0 at home and won the Boise State Invitational.

Boise State defeated Eastern Washington 3-0 on Wednesday, Sept. 5, then followed with three wins over Southern Utah (3-0), San Jose State (3-2) and UC Irvine (3-1) to win their home tournament over the weekend, Sept. 7-8.

Tuesday's match will be the fourth meeting all-time between Seattle U. and Boise State with the Redhawks winning the last two encounters giving them a slight 2-1 edge in the series.

Broncos Conclude Week at Arizona Desert Classic

The Broncos will conclude another busy week on Friday and Saturday when they travel to play in the Arizona Desert Classic at Tucson, Ariz.   

The tournament features two 2011 NCAA Tournament teams in the Pac-12's Arizona Wildcats and the Patriot League's American Eagles. It will also have a rematch of last Saturday's Boise State Invitational championship match between Boise State and UC Irvine.

Boise State opens the Arizona Desert Classic with American (5-3) at 12:30 p.m. (MST) followed by Arizona (5-3) at 7:00 p.m. (MST). The tournament concludes Saturday for the Broncos with a 1:00 p.m. (MST) encounter against UC Irvine (4-6)


Scouting Tuesday's Opponent

Seattle Redhawks
Boise State will have to deal with a Seattle Redhawk team that is looking to get back on the winning track after dropping two matches last week to prominent volleyball programs, losing at No. 7 Washington (3-0) Thursday night, followed by a home defeat at the hands of Long Beach State (3-0) on Saturday.

Seattle U. brings a 4-5 overall record into the match.

The Redhawks, who return three starters plus the libero and 10 letterwinners from 2011, are in their first year as members of the Western Athletic Conference where they are picked to place ninth out of 10 teams.  

The two teams have played three times previously with Seattle winning the last two, including a 3-1 (21-25, 26-24, 25-19, 25-22) victory in Boise last year.

Entering the match Seattle leads the all-time series 2-1.  

Sarah Jaeckel leads the Redhawks with 104 kills on the year, followed by Kaytlyn Dill with 92 kills and 13 blocks.  

As a team, Seattle hits .121 percent on the season while opponents have gone .197 percent.

The Broncos are hitting .247 percent on the year to rank fifth in the Mountain West.

They rank second in the MW for overall kills with 501 and second in kills per set at 13.92.

Boise State leads the MW in assists with a per set average of 13.08.

Defensively, Boise State is third in digs with a per set average of 15.22.

Sophomore outside hitter Alyssa Gammel, a transfer from Virginia Tech, has been named to three consecutive all-tournament teams: Northwest Challenge (Aug. 24-25), Sacramento State Invitational (Aug. 1-Sept. 1) and Boise State Invitational (Sept. 7-8).

Senior outside hitter Liz Harden was named to the Sacramento State Invitational All-Tournament Team (Aug. 1-Sept. 1), then followed that with the MVP honor at the Boise State Invitational (Sept. 7-8).

Senior libero Kersti Whitney was named to the Boise State Invitational All-Tournament Team (Sept. 7-8).

Alyssa Gammel, sophomore outside hitter, leads the Broncos in kills with 140 to rank second in the MW for kills per set at 3.89. She is hitting .238 percent on the season.

Gammel is second in the MW for points per set at 4.24 with a total of 152.5 points in 10 matches.

Gammel has led the team in kills in seven of 10 matches. Gammel is second in digs on the team with 108.

Liz Harden, a senior outside hitter, is second on the team in kills with 122 for a 3.39 per set average (5th MW). Harden is hitting .304 percent through 10 matches.

Brittany Reardon, a redshirt sophomore middle blocker, is ranked seventh in the MW for hitting percent at .349. She also has a team third-best 60 kills and leads in blocks with 33.

Taylor Murphey, sophomore rightside hitter, has 51 kills and is second in blocks with 26.

Leah Stevens, junior middle blocker, is third on the team in blocks with 22. She is hitting .299 percent with 44 kills.

Casey Rose, junior setter, is ranked seventh in the MW for assists per set at 5.92. She has a team-high total of 213 assists.

Kersti Whitney, senior libero, leads the team defensively with 164 digs to rank third in the MW at 4.56 digs per set.

Sarah Baugh, freshman setter, is second on the team and 10th in the MW for assists per set at 5.31, she has a total of 191 assists to date.
