OGDEN, Utah - Boise State's volleyball team continued their successful season on Wednesday with a 3-1 (20-25, 25-11, 25-13, 25-23) win over Weber State University. The Broncos improved to 6-2 on the season, while the Wildcats remain winless at 0-8.
Set one was much of a back-and-forth battle; however, Weber State was able to take the lead at the 19-18 mark and coast to the win. In set two, the teams battled through the first five points before the Broncos took a hold of the lead, while Boise State led start to end in set three. Set four was nearly opposite with Weber State staying well ahead of the Broncos until they tied it up at 21-21 and came back for the win.
The Broncos were led by senior, middle blocker Alisha Young who tallied 14 kills and a .391 hitting percentage on the night. Three other Broncos made it into the double-digits in kills, including Sadie Maughan and Fiona Jones who each had 12, as well as Elizabeth Griffin who tallied 10 kills. Griffin also had a match-high of .692 in hitting percentage with 10 kills on 13 attempts and one error.
Defensively, Maughan led the Broncos at the net with four block assists while Jones and sophomore Kersti Whitney led backcourt play with 10 digs apiece. Breann Nesselhuf and Lauren Hamm recorded the two Bronco service aces, while Nesselhuf neared her career-high (58) in assists with 55 against the Wildcats.
For Weber State, Bethany Wray led the team in kills (10), while Elli Graff led in hitting percentage (.571) and blocks (5). Kim Lissinna led the team from the backrow with nine digs while adding a match-high of two service aces and leading the team with 27 set assists.
The Broncos continue their road trip heading to Laramie, Wyo., to participate in the Uni/Wyo Cowgirl Classic hosted by Wyoming. Boise State will take on Portland, University of Texas-Arlington and Wyoming during the Sept. 10-11 tournament.
