Broncos Head to Los Angeles to Play in the Crowne Plaza LAX Tournament Hosted by Loyola Marymount

► What's Happening - The Bronco volleyball team will hit the road for their second-straight road tournament and third-straight tournament of the season. The Crowne Plaza LAX Tournament hosted by Loyola Marymount University at the Gersten Pavilion in Los Angeles will span from Sept. 11-12 and will include Boise State, LMU, Houston and No. 20-ranked UC Irvine.

        Sat., Sept. 12 - 2:30 pm (MT) - at Loyola Marymount    
        Sat., Sept. 12 - 6:00 pm (MT) - vs. Houston

Looking at Boise State...
► In General - The Broncos are still looking for their first win of the season, holding a 0-6 record after the Bronco Invitational (Aug. 28-29) and the Northwest Challenge (Sept. 4-5) where they dropped three matches each tournament. The Crowne Plaza LAX Tournament will be the final regular season tournament for the Broncos this season. The only other remaining tournament possibility is the 2009 WAC Tournament.


► Quick Look at the Broncos - Boise State will look to the leadership of Alisha Young, who was named to the Northwest Challenge All-Tournament team as well as Liz Harden who has been a consistent contributor in each match this season. Setter Breann Nesselhuf will also be looked towards for leadership, adding strength to the Bronco offense.

An Overview: Boise State vs. UC Irvine...
► The Series - Boise State and UC Irvine have the longest history of the four teams in the Crowne Plaza LAX Tournament, holding a 5-3 record in favor of Boise State. The series dates back to 1986 with the most recent match being played on Oct. 21, 2000, which Boise State won.  
 
► About UC Irvine - The Anteaters enter the weekend ranked No. 20 in the most recent AVCA Top-25 NCAA Division I poll. They hold an impressive 6-0 record so far on the season and will play USC in a 7 p.m. (Pacific Time) match on Sept. 8 before playing in the LMU Tournament this weekend. They have finished as tournament champions at both the Nevada Invitational and the UC Irvine Classic thus far this season.


An Overview: Boise State vs. Loyola Marymount
► The Series - The Broncos and Lions have met only three times in series history with LMU holding a 2-1 lead. The series dates back to 1982, but the most recent meeting was on Sept. 17, 1993 which ended in a LMU win.

► About Loyola Marymount - The Lions enter the weekend with a 4-2 record on the season. In their first tournament of the season at Texas Christian University, LMU was able to earn three straight wins to finish as tournament champions. In their second tournament of the season, the UNLV Tournament, the Lions suffered two losses to kick off the tournament. They fell 3-2 to the University of Idaho in their first match of the tournament while suffering a 3-0 loss to UCLA in match two. Their third match ended in a 3-0 sweep over UNLV.

An Overview: Boise State vs. Houston
► The Series - The Sept. 12, 2009 match between the Boise State Broncos and the University of Houston Cougars will be the first match in two-school series.
  
► About Houston - The Cougars enter the weekend with a 1-6 record on the season, going 1-3 at the Flo Hyman Invite in Houston and 0-3 at the Arizona Wildcat Classic. The Cougars single win on the season was against Southeastern Louisiana in a 3-0 sweep. The Cougars will also play one additional match prior to the Crowne Plaza LAX Tournament this coming weekend. UH will travel to Sam Houston State for a Sept. 8 match a 7:00 pm (Central Time).
