Boise State Surprises UCA 3-1 on the Road

CONWAY, Ark. -  Boise State upset the Central Arkansas Sugar Bears 3-1 Friday night at the Sears Sugar Bear Classic in Conway, Arkansas. Boise State regrouped from the morning's heartbreaking loss to knockoff the tournament host and two-time defending Southland Conference champions on their home floor. The Broncos led the scoring nearly the entire time in sets one, two and four as the blue and orange claimed a 2-0 advantage and momentum. Then they closed the match out, refusing to allow UCA back into the contest even after the Sugar Bears claimed a third set victory. 
 
Freshman Sierra Nobley led the Broncos in kills for the fourth-consecutive match, this time with 13. She also recorded one ace, one dig, one block and hit 29 percent on the night.
 
Senior Alyssa Gammel added 12 kills while hitting 25 percent, she also had one ace, eight digs and two blocks. Freshman Kaitlyn Oliver matched Gammel's kills, hitting an impressive 68.8 percent to go with a team and career-high six blocks.
 
Sarah Baugh had another solid outing dishing out 42 assists with two aces, six digs and four blocks. Defensively, Hannah Hubbard tallied a team-high 12 digs, followed by Gammel's eight. 
 
Boise State hit 29 percent on the night with 48 kills, 46 assists, nine service aces, 43 digs and eight blocks. Central Arkansas responded by hitting 23 percent with 55 kills, 52 assists, four aces, 44 digs and seven blocks. 
 
Three Sugar Bears recorded double-digit kills led by Evie Singleton with 15 kills, followed by Heather Schnars with 14 and Fulani Petties with 11. 
 
Boise State will close out the Sears Sugar Bear Classic Saturday morning when the Broncos face the Louisiana-Monroe (ULM) Warhawks at 11 a.m. (Mountain).
