Broncos Caravan To California For Final Fall Tournament

BOISE, Idaho The Boise State University volleyball team travels to Davis, Calif., for the UC Davis Hallmark Inn Aggie Invitational, Sept. 7 8 at the Pavilion.

“We are excited to play,” Bronco head coach Robin Davis said. “Tournaments can be tough because you play two matches in a day, go in to play three and you prepare for that. We have been a little banged up but we are really excited to play one good match on Friday, one good match on Saturday and just coming off the loss at Gonzaga we are excited to get on the court.”

Sizing Up the Competition...
 UC Davis (2-4):  The Aggies are on a two game winning streak after posting a pair of 3-1 victories over both Idaho State and Cal State Bakersfield ... Junior OH Renee Ibekwe led UC Davis to its first two wins of the season after posting a career-high 23 kills against CSUB and hit for a combined .419, committing just nine errors in 86 attempts.

 San Francisco(5-2):  The Dons have posted five wins this season, with four of them coming off of three-game sweeps over Fresno State, Oral Roberts, Colgate and Eastern Washington ... Look for junior MB Carly Babin to lead the attack for San Francisco as she leads the Dons in several categories, including kills (3.73 kpg), hitting-percentage (.339) and blocks (1.64 bpg) ... Senior OH Brynn Maurer also proves to be a force on the court as she leads the team in digs (4.13 dpg) and service aces (10).

On The Games Ahead...
“They are two good teams that are right around us in the new rankings, 102 and 122. They will be really good competition especially San Francisco who is 5-2. They have had a really nice season and had a couple significant wins. We are excited. We want to get back on and prove ourselves again. We have some stats and tape on San Francisco, but we are all about UC Davis Friday. Steve Walker is a friend of mine. He is a good guy and a good coach. We are hoping to battle and beat them at their place.”

Last Week at the Gonzaga Tournament

 Against Morgan State The Boise State volleyball team posted their third three-game sweep of the season, defeating Morgan State 30-23, 30-23, 30-18 ... Sophomore Arlee Tamietti, who tallied a season-high 18 kills and four service aces ... Freshman Sadie Maughan continued show why she leads the team in hitting-percentage as she posted a season-high percentage of .500 (9-1-16) ... The Broncos outblocked their opponents 7.0 to 3.0, with both Maughan and Tamietti posting three blocks each.

 Against No. 8 Washington The Broncos recorded their second loss of the season when they fell to the Huskies in three games with scores of 18-30, 17-30, 19-30 ... Setter Mandy Kelin led the offensive front with 25 assists, while sophomore Arlee Tamietti notched nine kills ... Freshman Sadie Maughan added points to the board as she posted a hitting-percentage of .333 (6-1-15) ... For the second straight match, Jeanene Rose and Lauren Hamm led the defense combining for a total of 14 digs, half of the teams overall digs total (28).

 Against Gonzaga Entering the match, the Broncos led the series with the Bulldogs 14-7, but lost to Gonzaga 26-30, 22-30, 26-30 ... Freshman libero Lauren Hamm notched a career-high 22 digs against the Bulldogs ... Freshman middle blocker Sadie Maughan posted a team-high hitting-percentage of .300 (9-3-20).

Bronco Player of the Week - Freshman middle blocker Sadie Maughan led the offensive front for Boise State at the Gonzaga Tournament, averaging a hitting-percentage of .373 (24-5-51), tallying with just five errors.  The Murray, Utah native kicked off the tournament Friday night with nine kills en route to hitting .300 in addition to posting 4 blocks. In Saturday’s opening match against No. 8 Washington, Maughan repeated her outstanding play as she notched two big blocks and led the attack for the Broncos, posting a hitting-percentage of .333 (6-1-15). Following her outstanding play, she then posted a career-high hitting-percentage of .500 (9-1-16) against Gonzaga.

Stellar Start - The back-to-back three-game sweep over CSU-Fullerton and UTSA marked the first time since 2000 that Boise State had swept its first two matches of the season.

Double Take - Senior Jamie Claussen began her senior campaign with a double-double, recording 12 digs and a team-high 12 kills against UTSA ... the outside hitter followed up that performance with 12 kills and 13 digs against CSU-Fullerton for her second double-double of the season ... Claussen led the Broncos with nine double-doubles in 2006.

Klein Climbs Charts - Junior setter Mandy Klein, who ranks seventh on the Broncos’ career list in assists, posted 116 over the weekend at the Bronco Invitational ... Klein notched 37 assists against Morgan State, taking sole possession of sixth place on the Broncos’ career list in assists ... The junior has posted 214 assists this season, moving her career total to 1,953.

Simply Flawless - Freshman middle blocker Sadie Maughan, hit .400 (8-0-20) against UTSA in her inaugural Bronco match, posting the Broncos’ fifth-most attempts without an error since 1993.

Tournament Team Players Senior Jamie Claussen and sophomore Arlee Tamietti were both named to the Bronco Invitational All-Tournament Team ... Claussen averaged 3.67 kills and 3.22 digs per game ... Tamietti averaged 3.44 kills and 1.11 digs per game during the three-match round-robin tournament ... Tamietti’s outstanding play continued at the Gonzaga Tournament as she earned a spot on the All-Tournament team after leading Broncos with 10 kills against Gonzaga.

Digging Machine - Libero Lauren Hamm proved to be a force to be reckoned with on the defensive front against Gonzaga as she notched a career-high 22 digs ...The freshman has tallied double-figure digs in every match this season ... Hamm leads the Broncos with 79 digs on the season, averaging 4.4 digs per game.
