Broncos Win Second Match at Northwest Challenge
Broncos defeat Portland State 3-1.

SPOKANE, Wash. - Boise State University's volleyball team won its second-consecutive match at the Northwest Challenge with a 3-1 (25-21, 25-18, 18-25, 25-16) victory over defending Big Sky Conference champion and 2010 NCAA Tournament participant Portland State University (4-3) Saturday morning in Spokane, Wash. Redshirt-freshman Brittany Reardon led the Broncos with a career-high 15 kills to lead the Broncos to their fourth win of the season.

For the second straight match Boise State came out of the gates early to claim a 2-0 lead with wins in the first two sets before clinching the match with a fourth-set win. It was the second-consecutive 3-1 win for Boise State at the tournament after defeating the tournament's host Gonzaga University Friday night. The Broncos are now 4-2 on the year with a 5 p.m. (Mountain) encounter versus undefeated No. 8 University of Washington up next.  

Boise State never trailed in the first set against Portland State and lead by as many as eight points before Kristyn Kirschenman gave her team the victory with a service ace to hand the Broncos the four-point win.

The second set was a different story with Portland State leading early on before Boise State rallied for the victory midway through the set. The Broncos battled back from five down (9-4) to tie the score at 15 only to see the Vikings regain the lead at 17-15.  The blue and orange regrouped again and rolled off six-consecutive points to seize control at 21-17 and eventually out scored Portland State 10-1 down the stretch to win by seven at 25-18.

The third set was tight early before the Vikings took control. Tied at 10-10, Portland State out scored the Broncos 7-1 to take a 17-11 lead and eventually defeated Boise State 25-18 to pull within one in the match score at 2-1 Broncos.

Portland State ran out to a quick 3-0 lead in the third set before they hit a wall.  Boise State responded with a 9-0 run to seize control and never looked back. Brittany Reardon led the Broncos early in the set accounting for five kills and two block assists by the time the score was 12-8.  Boise State eventually extended their advantage to 10 at 20-10 before taking a 25-16 win on a Reardon kill for the final point to clinch a 3-1 match victory over the Vikings.

Brittany Reardon led the Broncos with 18.5 points on 15 kills (.591), one service ace, one solo block and three block assists. Fiona Jones was second in scoring with 12 points off nine kills (.067), one service ace, one solo block and two block assists. Liz Harden and Elizabeth Griffin each added 8.5 points, both had eight kills and one block assist.  Breann Nesselhuf added a team-high 28 assists followed by  Casey Rose with 15, while Amanada Remy led in the digs department with 18 followed by Kristyn Kirschenman with 10.  The Broncos had seven service aces led by Rose with three and Kirschenman with two.

Portland State was led by Megan Ellis with 12.5 points on 11 kills, one service ace and one block assist. Aubrey Mitchell followed with 8.5 points on eight kills and one block assist.

Boise State recorded 50 kills on 143 attempts for a .175 hitting percentage to go with 49 assists, seven aces, 55 digs and nine blocks. Portland State countered with 43 kills on 132 attempts for a .136 attack percentage, 39 assists, two aces, 59 digs and nine blocks.
