Volleyball Rallies for 3-2 Victory Over Drake
Nesselhuf and Remy named to Crystal Inn Thunderbird Invitational All-Tournament Team.

CEDAR CITY, Utah - Boise State University's volleyball team rallied from behind to claim a 3-2 victory over Drake University Saturday afternoon on the final day of the Crystal Inn Thunderbird Invitational in Cedar City, Utah.  For the second time in three matches the Broncos rallied to force a fifth set, however, this time they pulled out the win as they improved to 2-1 on the opening weekend of the season.

The Broncos opened the match with a 25-17 win in the first set. They then fell behind when they lost a pair of hard fought sets by identical scores of 25-23 to go down 2-1 in the match after the third set. Boise State regrouped and rallied to take the fourth set 25-19 to force the decisive fifth set.

Boise State rallied from two sets down (2-0) Friday morning against Pacific to force a fifth set. Unfortunately, the Broncos fell to the Tigers 15-10 in the final set for their first loss. Today Boise State refused to let the same happen to them versus Drake. After falling behind early in the fifth, the Broncos rallied once again to claim a 16-14 win in the set to claim the match victory.

Fiona Jones led Boise State with 20.5 points, 18 kills (.130), 12 digs, three blocks and two assists. Darlene Nwagbuo followed with 17 points, 14 kills (.323) and six blocks, while Brittany Reardon match Nwagbuo's points with 17 to go with 12 kills (.321) and a team-high eight blocks. Liz Harden added 14.5 points, 13 kills (.162) and three blocks.

Breann Nesselhuf led the team from the setter's position with eight points, 53 assists, 12 digs and six blocks. Defensively, Amanda Remy led the team with 26 digs followed by Kristyn Kirschenman with 20.

Drake was led by Mikayla Sims with 23 points on 17 kills and eight blocks, followed by Michelle Reidy with 20 points, 16 kills and eight blocks.

Boise State will continue its 14-match road swing to open the 2011 campaign next weekend when they take their 2-1 record to Spokane, Wash., where they will compete in the Northwest Challenge hosted by Gonzaga University. The Broncos will open the tournament against the West Coast Conference's Gonzaga Bulldogs Friday night, then follow that with Saturday encounters versus Portland State University of the Big Sky Conference and No. 7 (AVCA) ranked University of Washington out of the Pacific-12 Conference.  

TOURNAMENT NOTE: Boise State University's Breann Nesselhuf and Amanda Remy where named to the Crystal Inn Thunderbird Invitational All-Tournament Team this weekend. Nesselhuf, a senior setter, recorded 15 points, nine kills (.107), 137 assists, 34 digs and 10 blocks during the three match weekend. Meanwhile, Remy, a senior libero, led the Bronco defense accumulating four points, nine assists, four service aces, and a team-high 73 digs.
