THIS WEEK FOR THE BRONCOS  

  • Boise State (0-0) opens the 2016 campaign on the road at the TCU Invitational in Fort Worth, Texas, on Saturday.
  • The Broncos open with a doubleheader on Saturday, Aug. 27, at TCU's University Recreation Center against Northwestern State (0-0) at 9 a.m. (Mountain Time) followed by an encounter with North Carolina State (0-0) at 3 p.m. (MT).
  • The tournament concludes on Sunday when the Broncos face the TCU Horned  Frogs (0-0) at 1 p.m. (MT).
  • Only the TCU match will have a live video stream and there is a cost to watch the stream.

THIS WEEK'S QUICK HITS

  • Boise State is coming off a 2015 campaign that saw the Broncos go 23-7 overall, 15-3 in Mountain West play to place second and finished at No. 43 in the final NCAA RPI.  
  • This week Boise State looks to extend its nine-match win streak dating back to the last nine contests of the 2015 campaign ... the Broncos won 15 of their last 16 matches to close 2015.
  • Boise State is 0-4 all-time versus the TCU Invitational field ... all four losses were to TCU.
  • The Broncos have never played either  Northwestern State (La.) or NC State in the sport of women's volleyball.
  • Boise State is 6-1 all-time against NSU's league the Southland Conference.
  • The Broncos are 1-1 all-time versus the Atlantic Coast Conference, home to NC State.
  • Versus the Big 12 and TCU, Boise State is 3-7 all-time.
  • Three of the four meetings with TCU happened in 2011 when both teams were members of the MW ... the last was a 3-0 sweep for the Horned Frogs at the MW Tournament in Albuquerque, N.M.

NOBLEY LOOKING FOR 1,000  

  • Boise State's junior outside hitter Sierra Nobley needs 55 kills to become the 14th member of the 1,000 career kills club.

BRONCOS IN SEASON OPENERS

  • Record: Boise State is 18-19 in season openers since the 1979 campaign.
  • Current Streak: The Broncos are looking to extend their streak to two in openers.
  • Last Year: Boise State defeated Portland State 3-0 in its season opener at the Northwest Challenge in Spokane, Wash.
  • At Home: 9-5 all-time when opening at home.
  • On Road: 9-14 all-time when opening on the road.

MW PRESEASON POLL  

  • The Broncos were picked a close second to Colorado State in the 2016 MW Coaches Preseason Poll.
  • Boise State received four first place votes and 92 total points, while Colorado State had six first place votes and 96 points.
  • Wyoming was third followed by New Mexico in fourth, San Diego State and UNLV tied for fifth, Nevada, Fresno State, Utah State, San Jose State and Air Force, respectively.

BRONCO PRESEASON HONORS  

  • Junior outside hitter Sierra Nobley was named the Mountain West Preseason Player of the Year and All-MW by the league's 11 head coaches.
  • Senior middle blocker Maddy O'Donnell and junior libero Maddi Osburn were also named to the Preseason All-MW Team.
  • Boise State had three of the seven All-MW honorees, the most of any team.

NO. 22 IN VOLLEYBALLMAG.COM MID-MAJOR POLL

  • The Broncos were ranked No. 22 in the inaugural VolleyballMag.com Preseason Mid-Major Poll released on Aug. 23.
  • Boise State was one of three MW teams ranked in the poll.

MOUNTAIN WEST NETWORK  

  • All of Boise State's home contests and all of the Broncos' 18 conference matches will be broadcast  live on the internet by the Mountain West Network.  
  • Chris Lewis returns for his third season as the voice of the Broncos for most of the home matches.

HEAD COACH Shawn Garus

  • Garus enters the year at 225-219 overall in his 15-year career as a collegiate head coach.
  • Garus is currently 117-99 at Boise State entering his eighth season.
  • Garus hit the 100 win milestone at Boise State when the Broncos defeated Abilene Christian 3-0 on Sept. 12, 2015.
  • Garus ranks second in total wins in program history, out of 10 coaches all-time.
