Count Down to First Serve: Meet Laney Hayes

BOISE, Idaho - As part of's preview of Boise State volleyball we are featuring each player on a 14 day count down to the first serve against Gonzaga at 5 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 29, in Bronco Gym to start the Northwest Challenge. We are starting with our seniors and working down the list by class.  

Today's Bronco player preview highlights redshirt-freshman Laney Hayes

Laney is in her second season with the Broncos after redshirting in 2013. The native of Bend, Ore., is a 6-foot middle blocker who sat out last season to recover from injury. Hayes was a three-year starter at Summit High School where she was an all-state player and conference player of the year as a senior. Laney was also a
two-time all-state tournament team and  three-time all-conference first team honoree during her prep career.

Eight Questions with Laney...

Q: Why did you choose Boise State?

A: When I came on my visit I loved the campus and the coaching staff.


Q: What's been your favorite thing about Boise so far?

A: I love that it is such a college town that really supports Boise State.


Q: What are some of your favorite hobbies outside of volleyball?

A: I like to go hiking and kayaking when I go home to Oregon.


Q: Which teammate would win at "America's Next Top Model"?

A: Coach Garus.


Q: What song gets you pumped up before a match?

A: Don't Tell Em, by Jeremih


Q: What is your motto?

A: Live and learn.


Q: Who has been the most influential figure in your life so far?

A: My sister.


Q: Looking to the future, what do you want to do in your life beyond college?

A: I want to travel and find a job that I enjoy going to every day!
