Count Down to First Serve: Meet Erienne Barry

BOISE, Idaho - As part of’s preview of Boise State volleyball we are featuring each player on a 14 day count down to the first serve against Gonzaga at 5 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 29, in Bronco Gym to start the Northwest Challenge. We are starting with our seniors and working down the list by class.  

Today’s Bronco player preview highlights redshirt-freshman Erienne Barry

Erienne (pronounced “Erin”) is one of four new Broncos this fall after transferring from Western Michigan this summer. The red-shirt freshman is a 6-foot setter who did not play in a match at WMU in 2013. Barry was a prep standout in Illinois where she was all-state as a senior, as well as a two-time all-conference and four-time all-area honoree in high school. The four-year starter for the varsity team at St. Charles East High School finished her prep career ranked seventh a
ll-time for career assists in Illinois high school history with 2,722.

Questions with Erienne...
Why did you choose Boise State?

A:I chose Boise State because of the atmosphere it provides. The people are just so friendly and the college town is amazing. Boise Idaho is nothing like Chicago! There are mountains!!


Q: What’s been your favorite thing about Boise so far?

A: The people!


Q: What are some of your favorite hobbies outside of volleyball?

A: I love water sports such like boating. I also love to be with my family. I consider laughing as one of my favorite things to do too, I consider laughing a hobby.


Q: Which teammate would win at “America’s Next Top Model”?

A: Coach Garus.


Q: What song gets you pumped up before a match?

A: Drake and “Replay” by Zendaya.


Q: What is your motto?

A: Play for people who can’t play at all. Take a leap of faith because the scary choices are the ones that are worthwhile. Never be afraid to try, remember amateurs built the arc and professionals built the titanic.  Everything happens for a reason. 


Q: Who is your hero in life?

A: Anna Daley and my parents.


Q: If I could spend one day in history it would be with, why that person?

A: I would want to go back in time to when my parents were in high school or college and see what shenanigans they got into. I think it would be so funny. But if Jay Gatsby was a real person I would want to hang out with him. Who wouldn’t want to be around Jay Gatsby?


Q: Who has been the most influential figure in your life so far?

A: Anna Daley and my mother.


Q: Looking to the future, what do you want to do in your life beyond college?

A: I want to work in the NFL or NBA. I would love to work in operations with a specific team.
