Count Down to First Serve: Meet Katelyn Kinghorn

BOISE, Idaho - As part of BroncoSports.com’s preview of Boise State volleyball we are featuring each player on a 14 day count down to the first serve against Gonzaga at 5 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 29, in Bronco Gym to start the Northwest Challenge. We are starting with our seniors and working down the list by class.  



Today’s Bronco player preview highlights junior Katelyn Kinghorn

Katelyn is one of two Idahoans on the Bronco roster, she is from Rigby which is on the eastern side of the state. Like the rest of the team she is a two sport athlete competing for both the indoor and sand volleyball teams. The 5-foot-11 redshirt-junior outside hitter has recorded 22 starts in her career, 16 as a sophomore in 2013. During her career she has accumulated 218 kills (1.37 kps), hitting percentage of 16.9 percent, seven assists (0.04 aps), one service ace (0.01 saps), 97 digs (0.61 dps), 63 blocks (0.40 bps) and 253 points (1.59 pps).

10 Questions with Katelyn...

Q: Why did you choose Boise State?

A: I chose Boise State because of the volleyball program, but not only that, Boise is a great place to live with plenty of activities to do.  Plus the people here are great and there’s lots of support for Bronco athletics in the surrounding communities.

 

Q: Who is your hero in life?

A: My hero would definitely have to be my mother, she’s taught me a lot about life and what truly matters.

 

Q: What song gets you pumped up before a match?

A: Sail by Awolnation Remix

 

Q: What’s been your favorite thing about Boise so far?

A: My favorite thing about Boise is that it’s not too big and not too small, it’s the best of both worlds.

 

Q: Who has been the most influential figure in your life so far?

A: The most influential figure is my grandpa.  No matter what, he always had a smile on his face.  If I ever needed someone to talk with or laugh until my cheeks hurt, it was him.  He was a very hard worker.  Live life with a smile, a great attitude, and be thankful. 

 

Q: What are some of your favorite hobbies outside of volleyball?

A: Some of my favorite things are rock climbing, mountain biking and boating with friends.

 

Q: Which teammate would win at “America’s Next Top Model”?

A: Coach Shawn Garus.

 

Q: What is your motto?

A: “Go forward in life with a twinkle in your eye and a smile on your face, but with great purpose in heart.” --Gordon B. Hinckley

 

Q: If I could spend one day in history it would be with, why that person?

A: I would spend one day in history with Albert Einstein, because I would enjoy picking his brain and ask him how he does his hair. 

 

Q: Looking to the future, what do you want to do in your life beyond college?

A: Beyond college I want to find a successful job, do some traveling, and find my prince charming.
