Volleyball Picked Sixth in MW Preseason Poll

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The Boise State volleyball team has been picked to place sixth in this year's Mountain West Conference race as voted on by the league's 11 coaches. The MW released the preseason poll this morning from the conference office in Colorado Springs, Colo. The Broncos were picked two spots higher than it finished in 2013.

Boise State returns an experienced team with eight veterans from last year including four senior starters in Alyssa Gammel (outside hitter), Taylor Murphey (outside hitter), Brittany Reardon (middle blocker) and Aly Duffin (middle blocker). In addition, the Broncos return their libero in sophomore Hannah Hubbard.

Three other veterans are back as well that were an impact on last year's squad in juniors Katelyn Kinghorn (outside hitter) and Sarah Baugh (setter), along with sophomore Maddy O'Donnell (middle blocker), all three started at least 11 matches each. They are joined by a hosted of talented underclassmen in three redshirt freshmen and three true freshmen.

Traditional power Colorado State was picked to win its sixth consecutive title this fall, followed by New Mexico, Utah State, San Diego State and Wyoming to wrap up the top five teams in the poll. Boise State was selected next in sixth, followed by UNLV, Fresno State, Air Force, San Jose State and Nevada.

The volleyball season gets underway next week when the Broncos host the seventh annual Northwest Challenge in Bronco Gym over Labor Day weekend. Joining Boise State for the challenge are the fourth-ranked Washington Huskies, Portland State Vikings and Gonzaga Bulldogs.
