Count Down to First Serve: Meet Alyssa Gammel

BOISE, Idaho - As part of BroncoSports.com’s preview of Boise State volleyball we are featuring each player on a 14 day count down to the first serve against Gonzaga at 5 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 29, in Bronco Gym to start the Northwest Challenge. We are starting with our seniors and working down the list by class.


Today’s Bronco player preview highlights senior Alyssa Gammel.

Senior Alyssa Gammel is a two-sport athlete for the Broncos, playing both indoor and sand volleyball. The native of Bakersfield, Calif., is a 5-foot-9 outside hitter. Since transferring from Virginia Tech following her freshman season she has started in 58 matches over the last two seasons. She has managed to write her name into the Bronco record book for the rally scoring era (2001-present) as she is currently in seventh-place for total career kills (685), second in kills per set (3.22), 12th in digs (528) and eighth in points (768).

10 Questions with Alyssa...


Q: Why did you choose Boise State?

A: I chose Boise State University because I loved the volleyball coaching staff and the town had a lot to offer such as floating the river, beautiful downtown, shopping and the green belt.

 

Q: What’s been your favorite thing about Boise so far?

A: My favorite thing about Boise is the people and Big City Coffee.

 

Q: What are some of your favorite hobbies outside of volleyball?

A: Bike riding, shopping, painting my nails, baking.

 

Q: What song gets you pumped up before a match?

A: AO1- UTC Band.

 

Q: What is your motto?

A: “So we do not focus on what is seen, but what is unseen; for what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal” 2 Corinthians 18.

 

Q: Who is your hero in life?

A: My older sister- Ensley (23 years old).

 

Q: If I could spend one day in history it would be with, why that person?

A: I would want to spend a day in history with Jesus Christ because I would want to meet the person that I live my life for. “He became what we are so that we may become what he is.” 

 

Q: Who has been the most influential figure in your life so far?

A: My older sister Ensley.

 

Q: Looking to the future, what do you want to do in your life beyond college?

A: Have and raise a family and continue to live my life for Christ in whatever field He puts me in.
