BOISE, Idaho The Boise State University volleyball team has added five new faces this fall, four freshmen and a junior college transfer, who joined the team Thursday, for the first practice of the season.
Freshman Sadie Maughan signed a letter of intent in April, and freshman Alisha King signed with the team during the early signing period. With the addition of walk-ons Emily Botts and Lauren Hamm, and junior college transfer Maren Ericson, head coach Robin Davis has added even more depth in his second season.
Ericson, who transferred to Boise State after two seasons at the College of Eastern Utah, attended Kuna High School in Kuna, Idaho. The 5-10 junior started at outside hitter in each of the last two seasons for the Eagles, earning All-Scenic West Athletic Conference Second Team honors as a sophomore. She was also named the team’s Offensive Player of the Year last season while serving as team captain.
Botts, a native of Corte Madera, Calif., started at outside hitter for three seasons at Redwood High School. Her team went undefeated in each of her varsity seasons and finished eighth in the state tournament during her senior year. The 6-0 freshman garnered first team all-league and Marin Independent Journal Player of the Week honors as a senior.
Hamm, who comes to Boise State from Coto de Caza, Calif., started at outside hitter as a junior at Tesoro High School, and at outside hitter and defensive specialist as a senior. The 5-9 freshman is slated to play libero/defensive specialist for the Broncos. She was named first team all-league as a junior and third team all-county as a senior. She was also named the Pacific Coast League’s Most Valuable Player during her senior season.
The Broncos will host an Alumni Match Aug. 18 at 4 p.m. in Bronco Gym to gear up for their season-opener against UTSA, Aug. 24.
