Boise State Announces 2012 Volleyball Schedule

Broncos host 13 home matches in 2012.

BOISE, Idaho - Shawn Garus, Boise State University's head volleyball coach, released the 2012 volleyball schedule this afternoon. The 32 match slate features four regular-season tournaments, one at home, and 13 home contests. It will also mark the second season in the Mountain West where the Broncos will look to improve upon their fifth-place (tied) finish from a year ago.

The season begins with two tournaments. The Broncos open at the annual Northwest Challenge (Aug. 24-25) which is hosted by the University of Washington this year and will feature Portland State University and Gonzaga University, in addition to the Huskies and Broncos. The second tournament is at Sacramento State (Aug. 31-Sept. 1) where Boise State will meet Sac State, Saint Mary's College (Calif.) and Morgan State University (Baltimore, Md.).

The Broncos will then return home to host Eastern Washington University (Sept. 5) before hosting the Boise State Invitational (Sept. 7-8) featuring UC Irvine, San Jose State University and Southern Utah University.

Boise State will close its pre-conference schedule with four road matches at Seattle University (Sept. 11) and at a tournament (Sept. 14-15) at the University of Arizona. Joining the Wildcats and Broncos in Tucson will be UC Irvine and American University (Washington, D.C.).

The Broncos second campaign through the Mountain West begins on the weekend of Sept. 20-22 when Boise State hosts MW newcomer Fresno State and UNLV. They follow that with a home match versus the U.S. Air Force Academy on Sept. 28.

The third weekend (Oct. 4-6) of conference action has Boise State on the road at the University of New Mexico and at Cal State Bakersfield in a nonconference match, the first of two between the schools.

The Broncos return home the following weekend to host San Diego State University and the second MW newcomer the University of Nevada on Oct. 11-13, respectively.

Boise State then hits the road for three straight at MW power Colorado State (Oct. 18), Wyoming (Oct. 20) and at Air Force (Oct. 27). The match versus the AFA Falcons will mark the start of the second round of conference action.

The weekend of Nov. 3-4 the Broncos will host New Mexico and Cal State Bakersfield, respectively, before traveling to Nevada and San Diego State the following weekend (Nov. 8-10).

The final two weekends of the season will have Boise State closing its home schedule against Wyoming (Nov. 15) and Colorado State (Nov. 17). The Broncos will then close the regular season with a road trip to UNLV and Fresno State (Nov. 21-23).

The Mountain West will not hold a postseason tournament this year. The league's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament goes to the regular-season champion.
