BOISE, Idaho - The Boise State volleyball team is in the middle of spring training as it prepares for next fall's schedule. The approach of April signals the arrival of one of the annual rites of spring, the start of the volleyball exhibition season where teams can judge how far they have come since the conclusion of last fall's campaign.
The Boise State coaching staff looks to take full advantage of the exhibition season as they put the 11 returning Broncos and two newcomers through spring training. The roster is highlighted by next year's senior class of Liz Harden, Fiona Jones, Kersti Whitney and Miranda Bradshaw. They are joined by three sophomores-to-be in Kristyn Kirschenman, Taylor Murphey and Brittany Reardon, as well as two redshirt freshman Katelyn Kinghorn and Sarah Webster. Boise State has added two additional players to the roster this spring in transfers Aly Duffin (Georgia Southern) and Alyssa Gammel (Virginia Tech), both are natives of California and will be eligible to play as sophomores next fall.
This spring Boise State will participate in three tournaments and play a total of 13 matches. The action begins on Saturday, April 7, when the Broncos travel north to Pullman, Wash., where they will play in a seven team round robin tournament hosted by Washington State University. While in the Palouse country Boise State will play Central Washington, Eastern Washington, Idaho, Montana State, Seattle and Washington State.
The next spring tournament will be hosted by the College of Southern Idaho in Twin Falls on Friday, April 13. This will be a three team tournament as the College of Idaho will join CSI and Boise State.
The final tournament of the spring for Boise State will be hosted by the Broncos on Saturday, April 21, in Bronco Gym. The event will be a four team round robin featuring the College of Idaho, Eastern Oregon, Idaho State and the Broncos. The tournament is open to the public with free admission. With two matches being played simultaneously seating will be limited to the second level of Bronco Gym on the west side.
