Feb. 19, 2016

BOISE, Idaho (Feb. 19, 2016) - Shawn Garus, Boise State's head volleyball coach, announced today the additions of Emily Sullivan (Boise, Idaho) and Maddie Simon (West Liberty, Iowa) as the newest members of the Boise State volleyball program. Sullivan transferred to Boise State during the winter break from Carroll College in Helena, Mont., while Simon will join the team next fall as a freshman.

Emily Sullivan comes to Boise State following her freshman campaign at Carroll College where she helped the Saints to a 17-12 overall record, earning the Frontier Conference's Freshman of the Year honor in the process. The 6-foot outside hitter started 20 of 30 matches played and finished the year with 255 kills, 13 assists, 20 service aces, 170 digs and 37 blocks. She averaged 2.24 kills per set and had an attack percentage of .213.

Sullivan is a 2015 graduate of Boise's Bishop Kelly High School where she played two years of prep volleyball. While competing for the Knights she helped the team to a league title and a second-place finish at the 2014 state championship tournament. Sullivan's honors as a senior at Bishop Kelly included being named MVP of the 2014 4A state championship tournament, 4A all-state, conference player of the year and all-conference, for the second time. Prior to BKHS, Sullivan attended White Fish High School in White Fish, Mont., where she was a two-time all-conference honoree, in addition to earning all-state accolades as a sophomore.

"We are excited to welcome Emily Sullivan to our program," Garus said. "Emily was a very successful high school player locally playing for one of our alumni Alisha Young at Bishop Kelly. She also played club ball for the Boise Volleyball Club so we know her skills well and what she brings to the team. I think she is going to bring a lot to our program."

Maddie Simon is currently a senior at West Liberty High School in West Liberty, Iowa, where she will graduate this spring. She will join her twin sister Cassie as a member of the Boise State volleyball team next fall as a true freshman. The 5-foot-9 libero/defensive specialist was a four-year starter for the Comets' varsity team and closed out her career by helping the squad to a 37-5 record and state runner-up finish last fall. Simon helped the WLHS to a combined record of 92-24 overall over the last three years. She is a two-time All-River Valley Conference Team and one-time honorable mention all-conference honoree. Her senior season accolades include: River Valley Conference Elite Team, first-team all-district, 3A all-southeast district team, all-state third team, all-state tournament team, Muscatine Journal All-Area First Team and Quad City All-Area Second Team.

"We are excited to add Maddie to our roster for this fall," said Garus. "Maddie is as good a libero as any I've seen out there in the 2016 class, she's fast and aggressive on the floor. She is a very dedicated student-athlete and Maddie is going to be a great addition to our program."
