SAN DIEGO – The Boise State volleyball team fell in four sets at San Diego State, Thursday (Nov. 21), falling to 12-16 (6-12 Mountain West) on the season. The Aztecs were able to capture a 21-25, 25-22, 25-21, 25-19, improving to 14-13 (9-8 MW) at Peterson Gym.

Boise State earned the upper hand early in the evening, winning the first set 25-21. The Broncos held the lead from start to finish, pulling ahead by as many as four points at various times.

San Diego State countered in set two, a near mirror performance to the Broncos in set one. The Aztecs led nearly the entire set earning a 25-22 win, followed by a similar set three finish of 25-21 to go up two sets to one on the Broncos.

Set four looked to be in favor of the Aztecs early after Boise State suffered four service errors in the first half of the set. However, thanks to an aggressive offense and tenacious defense, the Broncos narrowed the gap late in the set. Despite strong efforts to push the match to five sets, the Broncos fell 25-19 in the fourth set.

San Diego State’s Raegan Shelton led the match with 16 kills, followed by teammate Summer Nash with 15 kills. Boise State’s Maddy O’Donnell led the team with 13 kills to tie her career-best, while Taylor Murphey added 11.

O’Donnell tied with SDSU’s Emily Harris for a match leading total of five blocks on the night, while Boise State’s Alyssa Gammel added four.

Boise State’s Hannah Hubbard dominated the back row stats, gathering 24 digs to lead the match. Sarah Horton added 13 digs for the Broncos, while Christie Ring led SDSU’s efforts with 15 digs. Horton’s back row efforts, combined with her 10 kills earned her a seventh double-double performance of the season.

Boise State’s Casey Rose added 30 set assists, moving her to 1,881 in her career, good for the No. 3 spot on the all-time career assists list. She surpasses Christina Melvin (2003-04) who totaled 1,862 assists.

Boise State will close out its road season Saturday, Nov. 23 at UNLV. The Broncos are slated to take on the Rebels at 3:00 p.m. MT.
