BOISE, Idaho - The Boise State volleyball team (15-13, 7-6 MW) earned a solid 3-1 win Thursday (Nov. 15) night topping Wyoming (19-11, 6-8 MW) 23-25, 28-26, 25-14, 25-19 in their sixth-straight home win.
The Broncos were on fire, especially late in the match, hitting 80-percent and recording 22 kills in the fourth set. Boise State out-hit the Cowgirls 68 kills to 46, while also racking up a 9-2 advantage in service aces. Wyoming played strongest at the net, recording 13 team blocks to Boise State's four.
Liz Harden was a big leader for the Bronco offense, racking up 16 kills, six of which came in the final set.
Alyssa Gammel recorded her 14th double-double of the season with 12 kills and 13 digs, while also recording a match-high four service aces. Casey Rose tallied her 11 th double-double this season adding 35 assists and 10 digs. Sarah Baugh totaled 22 assists helping to run a successful offense.
Sarah Webster put in another 12 kills and a .429 hitting percentage for the Broncos, while Leah Stevens put in a .500 effort on eight kills for a strong offensive evening. Stevens added a team-high three block assists on the night as well.
Fiona Jones led an exceptional defensive effort for the Broncos recording 18 digs, while Kersti Whitney tallied 16. Whitney's efforts Thursday night helped to move her to No. 7 all-time in career digs, now sitting at 1,174. Whitney also added three service aces in the win.
Wyoming came out strong in the first two sets and faltered in the final two sets. The Cowgirls' Jodi Purdy totaled 13 kills, 14 digs and 2.5 blocks on the evening, while Calli Miller added 11 kills, 10 digs and two blocks. Whitney Smith and Rachel Keyes shared setting duties, recording 27 and 12 assists, respectively. Becky Stewart aided the defensive efforts with her 13 digs, while Erin Kirby notched 10 block assists on the night.
Boise State will play its final home match on Saturday (Nov. 17) against Colorado State. Prior to the match will be a "Senior Night" ceremony honoring seniors Liz Harden, Fiona Jones and Kersti Whitney. Saturday's match is slated for a 7 p.m. start in Bronco Gym. Fans who show their Bronco football ticket from earlier in the day will receive free entry to the volleyball match.
