USAFA, Colo. - Boise State lost in four sets (25-15, 24-26, 25-20, 25-22) Saturday night at Air Force in a Mountain West Conference volleyball match in Falcon Court. All four sets were tight as Air Force downed the Broncos in a hard fought contest taking sets one, three and four. Boise State won the second set 26-24 but could not manage to get past the Falcons on the road as the Broncos fell to 11-14 overall and 5-10 in league play. Freshman Maddy O’Donnell led the Broncos with a career night hitting a personal best 52.4 percent for a career-high 12 kills followed by Sarah Horton with 11 kills.
O’Donnell continued her run of solid performances over the last couple weeks as she settles into the pace of collegiate volleyball. The true freshman from Irvine, Calif., had the best match of her season tonight adding two digs and two blocks to her career marks in hitting and kills against the Falcons.
Senior Sarah Horton followed with 11 kills to go with a team-high (tied) 12 digs to record her sixth double-double of the season while adding two blocks to her tally on the night. Aly Duffin was next finishing with nine kills while hitting 27.3 percent, she also recorded a team-high six blocks versus Air Force.
Katelyn Kinghorn added eight kills, eight digs and one block, while Taylor Murphey contributed seven kills. Sarah Baugh dished out a career-second-best 33 assists to go with a career-high four blocks. Hannah Hubbard tied with Horton for team honors in digs with 12.
Boise State finished with 49 kills, 44 assists, four service aces, 46 digs and eight blocks. The Falcons answered by hitting 29.6 percent for 62 kills with 57 assists, four aces, 54 digs and nine blocks. Maggie Sherrill led the academy with 16 kills followed by Ayesha Hein and Taylor Parker with 13 each.
The Broncos will return home to host a two match homestand against Fresno State on Thursday and San Jose State Saturday. Note the start time for the San Jose State match next Saturday has been change from 7 p.m. to 6 p.m. to allow fans to attend the match prior to the 8:15 p.m. kick-off for the home football game against Wyoming.
