Broncos hit .402 percent in the win.

BOISE, Idaho (11/4/2012) - Boise State volleyball extended its win streak to three with a straight set 26-24, 25-19, 25-23 win Sunday afternoon in Bronco Gym over CSU Bakersfield. The Broncos had a balanced attack led by Liz Harden and Leah Stevens with 10 kills apiece. The nonconference victory was the third straight 3-0 win for  Boise State and moved the Broncos to 14-12 overall (5-5 MW), while CSUB fell to 12-15.

"I am really pleased with the way the team has played in this weekend, we were solid throughout," said head coach Shawn Garus. "CSUB gave us a fight and we responded well handling their rallies in the last two sets. I thought both Liz (Harden) and Alyssa (Gammel) were strong when we needed them to be late in the second and third sets. Leah (Stevens) is really coming on for us, as is Taylor (Murphey). Now we need to carry the momentum into next week's road matches."

Harden led the Broncos with a team-high 12 points on 10 kills and three blocks, Stevens was right behind with 11.5 points on 10 kills, one ace and one block, she also hit a team and career-high .769 percent. Brittany Reardon hit .533 percent to go with eight kills and two blocks, Fiona Jones chipped in nine kills, while Taylor Murphey recorded seven kills and one block.

Casey Rose and Sarah Baugh directed the Bronco attack that hit .402 percent with 24 and 19 assists, respectively. Kersti Whitney had a team-best 11 digs on the defensive side.

The opening set was a battle from the start with 11 ties and four lead changes. The Broncos found themselves down by four, 17-13, midway through the period before running off a 7-2 run to take a one-point lead at 20-19. The teams traded points down the stretch until Boise State's Reardon gave the Broncos a 25-24 advantage followed by a Whitney service ace for the 26-24 win.

Boise State slowly pulled away from the Roadrunners in the second period taking a set-high seven point lead on three occasions, last coming at 20-13. But CSUB rallied pulling to within three at 20-17 and again at 22-19. Gammel put the set away with three straight points, the last two by thundering aces, to give the Broncos a two set match advantage with a 25-19 win in the second frame.

The third set saw the Broncos lead the entire way racing out to a 6-1 advantage and lead by as many as seven points during the frame, the last came at 17-10. However, the Roadrunners battled back once again late in a set tying it at 19 all and again at 21.
