LOGAN, Utah - Boise State overcame a slow start to record its eighth sweep in its last nine contests defeating Utah State 25-21, 25-10, 25-18 Thursday night in Logan, Utah. Sierra Nobley led the Broncos with her league-leading 14th double-double of the season on a team-high 14 kills and 10 digs. Sabryn Roberts followed with 13 kills while hitting 33.3 percent.

“I’m excited that we won the match tonight, Utah State is a good team,” said head coach Shawn Garus. “I was worried about this match coming down here, they battled us hard in Boise. We swept them in three but each set was decided by two points. It was an overall team victory tonight and its goes back to how hard we practiced, how everyone is buying in and giving their all everyday. Now we will take sometime off this weekend to rest and heal before we focus on the final stretch with four of our last five at home.”

The win at Utah State is the ninth-consecutive victory for Boise State who improved to 20-6 overall and 11-2 in league. The win handed the Broncos their second straight 20-win season and gave them sole possession of first place in the Mountain West.

Sierra Nobley added one assist and two blocks in the victory to go with her double-double. She is now tied for second in the MW for career double-doubles with 31.

Roberts tied Nobley in points during the contest with 15.5 off her 13 kills, one block solo and three block assists. The sophomore also had a team-high (tied) four blocks. She came to life in the third set hitting a dominating 50 percent for six kills with one block.

Utah State opened the match fired up taking the early lead and holding it until late in the first set. The period saw 12 ties and five lead changes. Trailing 16-11, Boise State began to rally using a 9-2 run to tie the set at 18. Even at 21 all, the Broncos serged on a 4-0 run as Roberts and Nobley teamed up for three of the points off kills followed by an attack error by the Aggies that gave the set to Boise State 25-21.

The opening set lit a fire under the Broncos as they steam rolled the Aggies in the second period leading by as many as 15 points twice, including the final score of 25-10.

Set three was tight initially before the Broncos pulled away from the Aggies. Up 12-9, Boise State used a 7-1 run to take command at 19-10 with a match-high nine point lead. Maddi Osburn sealed the victory with a service ace to close with a 25-18 win.

Maddy O’Donnell hit a team-high 46.7 percent against the Aggies for nine kills. She added a team-high (tied) four blocks.

Kaitlyn Oliver hit a solid 41.7 percent for five kills and added three blocks, while Janell Walley added four kills, 10 digs and one block.

Jaymee-Lee Bulda dished out a team-high 36 assists and tallied seven digs and one block in the win.

Junior Maddi Osburn had a team-high 16 digs to give her a MW-leading 457, fifth-most in a season at Boise State.

Boise State finished the match hitting 34.4 percent as a team for 45 kills off 43 assists. The Broncos also had two service aces, 52 digs and nine blocks.

Utah State was held to 9.1 percent hitting for 30 kills on the night. The Aggies added 26 assists, two service aces, 33 digs and five blocks. USU was led by Kaylie Kamalu-Smith with 12 kills.

Boise State will take the weekend off before returning to action next Thursday when they host Fresno State. The Broncos close the regular season with four of its last five matches at home.
