SAN DIEGO, Calif. - Boise State opened the match hot taking the first two sets while hitting 34 percent, but could not hold on as the Broncos went cold hitting 16 percent in the final three periods while San Diego State rallied for the victory 20-25, 24-26, 25-20, 25-19, 15-10. Sierra Nobley had a team-high 22 kills followed by Sabryn Roberts with a double-double on 15 kills and 12 digs.

The loss drops the Broncos to 11-10 overall and 4-5 in league play. Next up for Boise State is a trip to Fresno State on Saturday.

All five sets were tight throughout with 55 ties and the teams trading 18 leads. Boise State held leads in the fourth and fifth sets but could not hold on in either of them as the Aztecs came back each time.

The opening set was close throughout with three points being the largest lead until late. Trailing 18-16, Boise State rallied scoring three straight to go up 19-18. The Broncos closed the period out by stretching that run out to 9-2 as Walley recorded the match clinching kill for the five-point 25-20 win. Nobley tallied a team-high eight kills in the set as the Broncos hit 35 percent as a team.

The second period was tight all the way with the largest lead being three points by the Broncos early. With the match tied at 24-24, Nobley’s 11th kill of the match gave Boise State set point for the second time up 25-24. A SDSU attack error out of bounds handed the set to the Broncos and a 2-0 advantage in the match score.

With set three tied at 8-8, SDSU rolled off a 4-0 run and never trailed again. The Broncos kept it close and rallied from six down (22-16) late to close within two following a 4-0 run to make it 22-20. The Aztecs then finished the set off with three straight points.

The fourth set saw the Broncos go up 11-7 when San Diego State came back on a 7-1 to take a 14-12 lead. The period stayed closed but the Aztecs managed to hold off Boise State for a six-point victory to tie the match and force the fifth set.

The fifth was even until the midway point when a the Aztecs began to pull away to go up three, then kept the Broncos at a two-to-three point distance. Boise State closed to within 12-10 but could get no closer as SDSU took the set with three straight points.

Boise State finished the night hitting 23.4 percent for 64 kills off 60 assists with five service aces, 68 digs and seven blocks. San Diego State countered hitting 27.3 percent for 73 kills on 64 assists to go with three service aces, 83 digs and eight blocks.
