FRESNO, Calif. - Boise State volleyball knocked off rival Fresno State on the road in five sets (16-25, 26-24, 26-24, 17-25, 15-13) in a Mountain West Conference match in the Save Mart Center at Fresno. It was a typical Fresno State-Boise State contest with the two teams battling through five sets for the 11th time in the last 12 meetings. Alyssa Gammel led the Broncos in the victory with 16 kills and two blocks, followed by Sarah Horton with 11 kills and three blocks, while Brittany Reardon added 10 kills and four blocks. The win improves the Broncos to 7-6 overall and 2-2 in Mountain West play, Fresno State falls to 7-7 and 1-1 in league.  

The Bulldogs opened the match by taking set one 25-16 as the Broncos struggled to find their rhythm. Down one set, the match turned into a battle as the Broncos rallied to claim the next two by identical scores of 26-24. In both sets the Broncos fought from behind late in the frame to secure the wins. In the third set Boise State came from 24-21 down to win with a 5-0 run to take a 2-1 match advantage.

The Bulldogs put the Broncos on their heals early in the fourth set to take momentum with a 9-0 run to open the frame. Boise State tried to rally pulling to within four points, 21-17, late in the set but could get no closer as Fresno State forced the match to a fifth set.

In the final stanza the Broncos found themselves down by two, 7-5, early. Boise State regrouped to score the next four points to take a 9-7 advantage. They never relinquished the lead after that eventually taking the decisive set 15-13 for the 3-2 match victory.

The win snapped a six-match losing streak for the Broncos to the Bulldogs. It also completed the weekend road sweep for the blue and orange with five-set victories over San Jose State on Thursday and Fresno State Saturday.

Gammel led the Broncos with a season-high 16 kills to go with three assists, 18 digs and two blocks. Horton was next with 11 kills, eight digs and three blocks. Reardon followed with 10 kills, one assist, one dig and four blocks.

Taylor Murphey added nine kills and a team-high five blocks, while Katelyn Kinghorn finished with eight kills, two digs and one block. Casey Rose contributed a team-high 29 assists, followed closely by Sarah Baugh with 26. Hannah Hubbard led Boise State defensively with 21 digs.

On the night Boise State hit 21.4 percent with 68 kills, 63 assists, two service aces, 63 digs, and 12 blocks. Fresno State finished hitting 30 percent for 70 kills, 67 assists, five aces, 84 digs and 11 blocks. Korrin Wild led the Bulldogs with 20 kills, followed by Holly Franks with 18 and Marissa Brand with 17.

Boise State will be back in action this coming weekend when they host a three-match homestand against Mountain West rivals Air Force and New Mexico, followed by their final nonconference match against Grand Canyon.
