Broncos Fall in Three to Oregon State

BOISE, Idaho - Boise State fell to Oregon State in three sets 25-21, 25-16, 25-20 on Saturday afternoon at Boise in the first of two contests on the day. Boise State struggled maintaining any sort of rhythm and hit a season-low 12.6 percent as the Broncos fell to 6-5 overall with the loss.
Senior Seirra Nobley led the blue and orange with a team-high 13 kills, followed by Janell Walley with nine and Lane Hayes with eight.
Boise State opened set one strong running out to a seven-point advantage early at 10-3. Unfortunately, Oregon State regrouped and slowly battled back capped with a 7-1 run to go up 17-16 before taking the frame 25-21. Walley, Roberts and Nobley each tallied four kills in the set.
The second period saw the Broncos hold slim one-point leads on a couple of occasions, but the Beavers slowly gained control and pulled away for the nine-point win. Senior Laney Hayes was the force for the Broncos in the set tallying five kills and one block.
Set three also went the way of Oregon State after Boise State lead until the midway point of the period when the Beavers rallied to tie the score at 13. With the score tied at 17-17, OSU rolled off a 3-0 run, the Broncos never recovered as the visitors took the set 25-20 to clinch the sweep.
Boise State will be back in action Saturday night at 7:30 p.m. for the second contest of the day against instate-rival Idaho State.

Player of the Match: Janell Walley was named Boise State’s Player of the Match after hitting an impressive 60 percent (9-0-15) for nine kills, one kill short of the double-double to go with 13 digs.
Double-Digits: Sierra Nobley tallied double-digit kills for the 75th-consecutive contest and 11th-straight this season recording a team-high 13.
Extending Records: Sierra Nobley has extended her Boise State and MW career kills record out to 1,662, while stretching her school career point record to 1,861.0.
Defensive Leader: For the 11th time this season Maddi Osburn led the Boise State defensive efforts along the back line tallying a team-high 19 digs. Osburn now has a career total of 1,452 leaving her 39 short of tying the school record of 1,491.
