Boise State Volleyball Defeats North Texas in Four

BOISE, Idaho - The Boise State Broncos came out fired up Friday afternoon to defeat the North Texas Eagles 3-1 (25-21, 25-16, 27-29, 25-19) on the second day of the Courtyard Marriott Bronco Volleyball Classic in Bronco Gym. The Broncos rolled out to a two set lead then held off an Eagle rally for the victory. Junior outside hitter Aly Duffin had a career night hitting 70 percent with a personal best and team-high 14 kills. The win improves the Broncos to 4-4 overall with a match on the slate tomorrow afternoon at 12:30 p.m. against Sacramento State in the final contest of the tournament.

Boise State opened strong Friday after Thursday night’s heartbreaking loss to Idaho. This time the Broncos refused to let the match get away from them as they took a two-set lead heading into the intermission. The third set was a battle from the get go as they two teams traded runs. Eventually the Eagles out lasted the Broncos for a 29-27 set victory.

Boise State regrouped in the fourth set determined not to let up. North Texas kept it close for a while before the Broncos used a 7-1 run to break away from the Eagles going from 11-10 up to 18-11.  They then put it into cruise control for the 25-19 set win and a 3-1 match victory.  

Duffin added two digs and two blocks to her totals as she powered the Broncos to the win. Brittany Reardon was close behind with 12 kills while hitting an impressive 43.5 percent, she also had a team-high three blocks. Alyssa Gammel added nine kills to go with two services aces and 12 digs.

Taylor Murphey continues to be solid for the Broncos chipping in eight kills with two digs and one block. Katelyn Kinghorn and Sarah Horton each had seven kills, Horton added 10 digs and one block, while Kinghorn recorded two blocks.

Boise State hit 28.5 percent on the day with 59 kills, 54 assists, 10 services aces, 57 digs and five blocks. North Texas had 57 kills while hitting 21.1 percent, the Eagles also had 52 assists, four aces, 55 digs and eight blocks. Four Eagles reached double figures in kills led by Karissa Flack with 13 while she hit 44.8 percent. Carnae Dillard, Analisse Shannon and Hanna Forst all had 10 kills apiece. North Texas fell to 6-5 on the year with the loss to the Broncos.
