DAVIS, Calif. - Boise State lost a heartbreaker Friday night in five sets at UC Davis 28-26, 15-25, 25-21, 18-25, 15-12 in their second contest of the day. In a match that lasted nearly two and a half hours, the Broncos struggled with consistency against the Aggies dropping the first, third and fifth sets, while dominating the two they won, the second and fourth.

Momentum swung away from the Broncos at the end of the fourth set when UCD fought off six set points before the Broncos took the period 25-18. Riding the momentum gained at the end of the fourth, UC Davis took the early advantage in the fifth. Boise State scored first, then trailed the rest of the way as the Aggies used a 4-0 run to take control, then held off the Broncos for the win 15-12 to take the match 3-2.

Boise State lost a six-point lead in set one and trailed 21-17 when the Broncos rallied behind Sierra Nobley to force it into extra points. Unfortunately, Boise State could not finish on two set point attempts before falling 28-26.

The second set was all Broncos as they led the entire way and by as many as 11 points before taking it by 10, 25-15.

Set three was sloppy as both teams committed numerous serving, setting and blocking errors. The mistakes hurt the Broncos more as they watched the Aggies take control midway through the set with a 6-1 run to go up 16-13 and never trailed again. The Broncos attempted to rally but fell by four, 25-21. UCD held Nobley without a kill in the third set, she had 21 in the match.

Set four saw the Broncos roll off a 9-0 run to go up 16-6 to take control and what seemed at the time the momentum. Boise State had set point at 24-12 but UCD fought off six set points before the Broncos won it 25-18 to force the decisive fifth set.

The loss dropped the Broncos to 1-1 on the day, after defeating Santa Clara 3-0 earlier in the day, and 5-3 overall. Boise State will return to action Saturday when they face the Portland State Vikings at noon (Mountain), PSU won both contests today over Santa Clara and UC Davis.
